Overview
UnityPoint-St Luke's Hospital Full-Time Nights 9pm-7:30am (four 10-hour shifts); Alternating weekends (flexible on start time!) $5,000.00 Sign on bonus to qualified applicants! Performs clinical tests and procedures in one or more functional sections of the laboratory. Maintains records of performance as defined by the Laboratory's administrative and sectional standard operating procedures. Performs and records QC on Equipment as trained. Be aware of and follow CAP, CLIA, HIPAA, and DNV guidelines and standards.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates technical and operational expertise
- Interprets quality control results and instrument function
- Completes scheduled preventive maintenance duties
- Provides assistance and guidance involving repairs, validations, and function checks
- Organizes, prioritizes, executes and interprets workload. Actively assists coworkers with interpretations and troubleshooting and possible follow-up corrective action
- Participates in quality assurance (QA). Attends and participates in QA laboratory meetings as requested.
- Resource management: Assists and monitors necessary supplies and kit availability for patient testing. Responsible for following manufacturer's recommended instructions for utilizing testing material and kits. Assists with reagent orders from vendors.
- Technical and teaching assistance: Provides operational training for coworkers involving manual, automated, and organizational skills for patient testing. Provides knowledge acquired thru experience and training to assist new hires and current coworkers
- Be available and help Phlebotomy services draw blood from patients in the Out-Patient area located in the laboratory.
- Work weekend shifts on a normal rotation

Development & Patient Education
- Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance the medical laboratory practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
- Assess departmental needs and communicate possible needs to the Supervisor. Participates in process improvement projects.
- Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria

- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree with major in Medical Technology or related science
- Less than one year
- Certified as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by Board of Registry of ASCP or equivalent due upon hire or within 1 year from date of hire.
- Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
