The Department of Economics in the Quinlan School of Business at Loyola University Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in Economics (Labor Economics) at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2027. We welcome applications from early-career scholars, including candidates completing their doctorates, as well as more experienced scholars, including advanced assistant professors. The ideal candidate should demonstrate expertise in labor economics.
Expectations include high-quality scholarly research, teaching excellence, engagement in service (commensurate with rank), and an appreciation of the University's mission. Candidates should demonstrate strong potential for high-quality scholarly publications, supported by a clear research agenda and an active pipeline of work.
Loyola University Chicago offers a BBA and a BA in Economics, a minor in Economics, and graduate-level economics courses. Teaching responsibilities will be primarily at the undergraduate level, including upper-division undergraduate courses in labor economics and other courses aligned with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs. These may include econometrics and introductory and intermediate macroeconomics or microeconomics.
To support the development of a strong research program, pre-tenure faculty receive a one-course annual reduction, resulting in four courses per year, typically distributed as two courses each semester (a 2-2 load). Following tenure, faculty may maintain this reduced teaching load through sustained research productivity consistent with the School's research-intensive expectations. Pre-tenure faculty are eligible to apply for a mid-tenure research sabbatical (one semester) following a successful mid-tenure review.
Guided by Loyola University Chicago's mission and Jesuit Catholic identity, we seek colleagues committed to making meaningful impact through academic rigor, ethical reflection, and business education for the common good. Candidates should familiarize themselves with the University's mission and articulate how their work could advance the University's For the Greater Good strategic plan: https://www.luc.edu/strategicplan/
