TRC is seeking an experienced Automated Utility Design (AUD) Configuration Consultant to support utility clients in implementing, enhancing, and optimizing SBS's Automated Utility Design (AUD) platform. This role is responsible for configuring AUD to align with utility engineering standards, construction practices, business rules, and design workflows, with a primary focus on electric and gas utility operations.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong combination of utility industry experience and hands-on AUD configuration expertise, enabling them to translate utility requirements into scalable, maintainable, and efficient design solutions. This individual will work directly with utility engineering, operations, GIS, and asset management stakeholders to configure workflows, standards, materials, assemblies, and business rules that support safe, compliant, and efficient utility design processes.

This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, exceptional attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and project teams in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Responsibilities

AUD Configuration and Standards Management

  • Configure and maintain SBS Automated Utility Design (AUD) to support utility engineering standards, construction specifications, and business processes.
  • Translate utility requirements into AUD configurations, workflows, validation rules, assemblies, compatible units, material libraries, and design standards.
  • Collaborate with utility engineering, GIS, operations, and asset management teams to gather and document business and functional requirements.
  • Configure utility-specific workflows supporting electric distribution, gas distribution, transmission, substation, streetlight, and related utility design activities.
  • Support integration of AUD with enterprise systems including GIS, EAM, work management, and asset management platforms.
  • Develop and maintain configuration documentation, standards libraries, and governance procedures.
  • Participate in solution workshops, design reviews, and client requirements sessions.

Utility Process Improvement

  • Analyze existing utility design processes and identify opportunities for improved efficiency, standardization, and automation.
  • Recommend best practices for configuration management, standards governance, and design workflow optimization.
  • Support utility modernization initiatives, including GIS upgrades, Utility Network implementations, and digital transformation programs.

Training and User Enablement

  • Develop and maintain training materials, user guides, and configuration documentation.
  • Conduct configuration workshops, knowledge transfer sessions, and end-user training.
  • Provide technical guidance and configuration support to both internal project teams and utility clients.

Quality Assurance and Testing

  • Develop and execute configuration testing plans to validate utility business rules and workflows.
  • Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and production deployment activities.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure compliance with utility standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.
  • Investigate and resolve configuration issues, defects, and user-reported concerns.

Project Delivery and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with project managers, solution architects, GIS professionals, developers, and utility subject matter experts.
  • Support multiple client engagements while delivering high-quality project outcomes.
  • Contribute to project planning, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 3-7 years of electric and/or gas utility experience in utility design, engineering, GIS, operations, asset management, construction, or related disciplines.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience configuring, administering, implementing, or supporting SBS Automated Utility Design (AUD).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting electric and/or gas utility design workflows and engineering standards.
  • Strong understanding of utility construction standards, compatible units, assemblies, material specifications, and business rules.
  • Experience gathering, documenting, and validating business and functional requirements from utility stakeholders.
  • Experience translating utility requirements into system configurations, workflows, validation rules, and standards libraries.
  • Experience supporting AUD integrations with GIS, EAM, work management, or asset management systems.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Map 3D and its role within utility design workflows.
  • Experience working with GIS platforms such as Esri ArcGIS, ArcGIS Utility Network, GE Small world, or similar utility systems.
  • Experience supporting testing, QA/QC activities, and production deployments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a consulting and project delivery environment.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to continuously expand utility and technology expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, GIS, Geography, Information Systems, Construction Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
