Pay Range*: $118,622.40/ann. - $177,902.40/ann.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Planning Manager works collaboratively with teams and department leaders throughout the entire facility comprising both the operations of Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children's and Women's Hospital to demonstrate our values through the implementation of productivity improvement initiatives and programs. The Financial Planning Manager acts as an internal expert, consultant and organizational process improvement champion who leads departmental and cross-functional teams, and assists with the coaching and mentoring of managers, through all aspects of the continuous improvement effort using healthcare management engineering principles and other effective strategies and methodologies. The Financial Planning Manager facilitates the identification, understanding and improvement of process issues by using appropriate quantitative and qualitative tools. The Financial Planning Manager will assist with the development and delivery of productivity improvement training and education to the organization. As an agent of change, the Financial Planning Manager will serve as a catalyst and create a culture that continuously strives for operational excellence and embraces the principles of process improvement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Facilitate interdisciplinary team activities for productivity improvement activities by providing the needed guidance and technical proficiency to allow the team to obtain positive results in the form of improved productivity. Sets the example that process improvement is "the way we do business" by providing a hands-on teamwork approach to identifying and solving process issues. Establish and monitor regular reporting of performance measures of success for each approved productivity improvement activity. Track, monitor and report project progression using standardized tools utilized by the department.

  • Assist with the development and delivery of education and training courses on productivity/performance improvement methodologies, including, but not limited to: Lean and Six Sigma. Devise appropriate assessment methods and approaches to ensure the successful transfer of knowledge to others within the organization.

  • Consult with department leadership to identify appropriate key projects or process improvement activities that will provide optimal benefit to our patients, families, and system partners.

  • In coordination with the Chief Financial Officer, supports the operating budget annual planning process.

  • Reviews data for use in the financial planning process, including volume projections, service line shifts, gross and net revenue analysis, expense inflation, corporate allocations, etc.

  • Via the department operational reviews (DORs), supports the Monthly Management Reporting process of budget vs. actual variances for the campus, bi-weekly labor productivity reporting, charge capture exception reports, lag days reports, and other leader standard work as identified and managed via the DORs.

  • Develops, maintains, and optimizes the Stratalazz system and other data sources used to support the capital and financial planning processes.

  • Creates reports as needed, to communicate financial and statistical data to key stakeholders.

  • Partners with the hospital campus and shared service team members to create and support a culture of employee engagement, accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and efficiency.

  • Drives and promotes innovation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications.
