Project Scientist Position in Hematology-Oncology - Garon Lab 2026-2027

The Edward Garon Lab in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking applicants for a Project Scientist position at the Assistant, Associate, or full rank. The candidate will perform collaborative research on either biomedical informatics and computational biology in lung cancer or will lead a translational research project in the area of cancer immunotherapy. This position requires a Ph.D. in biomedical informatics, computational biology, systems biology, immunology and/or related fields. Five years of experience in biomedical research is preferred. This is a 12-month position which may be renewed.

The Project Scientist will be responsible for developing research concepts, identifying biological mechanisms, and performing biomedical informatics and computational biology studies related to the pathogenesis of lung cancer. Alternatively, the candidate may develop and lead analyses evaluating the potential preclinical efficacy of novel immunotherapeutic approaches. Additional responsibilities include preparing high-impact scientific publications and assisting with grant preparation.

The successful candidate must have documented experience working with large datasets, including DNA and RNA sequencing data. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a collaborative research environment and have experience training, advising, and leading research personnel.

The Project Scientist will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will conduct analyses involving large and complex datasets. The individual will train and mentor undergraduate students, graduate students, and new postdoctoral trainees in the laboratory. The position requires the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and effectively, assist with the preparation of grant proposals, and deliver presentations to diverse scientific audiences. The candidate will actively participate in weekly team meetings, prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, communicate effectively with scientists at UCLA and collaborating institutions, and maintain and organize critical research databases.

A Ph.D. in biomedical informatics, computational biology, systems biology, immunology and/or related fields is required.

Five years of experience in biomedical research is preferred.
