Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Division of Diagnostic Sciences focuses on oral radiology and pathology through a combination of basic science and general dentistry, guides the diagnosis of oral diseases, and helps develop patient treatment plans. The Oral Microbiology discipline provides diagnostic clinical microbiology, microbiological research, microbiology training and sterilization monitoring services to both the school and the community of dental practitioners in North Carolina and the surrounding geographic area.
Position Summary
This position provides specialized consultative and technical support to the Oral Microbiology Laboratory within the Adams School of Dentistry. The position provides guidance and support during a period of operational transition. Responsibilities include advising faculty and staff regarding established laboratory procedures and practices; assisting with the review, documentation, and transfer of laboratory processes and institutional knowledge; providing technical guidance and training as needed; assisting with troubleshooting laboratory procedures and equipment; and supporting continuity of laboratory operations and services. The position may also assist with special projects, process documentation, training, and other activities necessary to support the continued effective operation of the Oral Microbiology Laboratory.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments ( CLIA) regulations.
Management Preferences

  • Demonstrated experience with anaerobic microbiology, laboratory operations, procedures, testing methods, or equipment
  • Experience providing technical consultation, guidance, training, or troubleshooting support related to laboratory procedures, protocols, or equipment
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control, safety practices, documentation, recordkeeping, or established operating procedures
  • Experience developing, reviewing, documenting, or implementing laboratory procedures, protocols, workflows, or technical reference materials
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborative with faculty, staff, or other stakeholders to identify and resolve complex laboratory operational or technical issues
