Overview
USU Eastern Upward Bound seeks a site coordinator who is sensitive to educational, economic, social and cultural diversities unique to Upward Bound (UB) students. The Site Coordinator will be located within GRAND COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL and will work with Upward Bound students during and/or after school.

The Site Coordinator will help to identify students who meet UB eligibility criteria, especially those who are low-income, first-generation, those who have potential for completing high school and entering postsecondary education, and those who are considered higher risk. They will also help determine if the student has the motivation or interest in improving his/her academics, and willingness to pursue a postsecondary degree.

The Site Coordinator will provide supplemental support services, such as academic advisement, career guidance, financial aid counseling, tutoring, and other motivational and intervention strategies. They will ensure that participants are familiar with educational opportunities and aware of financial aid and scholarship options. They will help with all necessary applications.

The UB Site Coordinator will be expected to become personally familiar with each participant, know and understand his/her academic and non-academic needs, and exert every effort to help the participant find satisfactory solutions leading to success. Counseling support will continue throughout the duration of time the participant is enrolled.

UB Site Coordinators and school counselors will collaborate to ensure that academic, motivational, career guidance, and college planning needs of participants are met. They will work closely with teachers, counselors and administrators in tracking student needs and progress.

Responsibilities
  • Aid in identifying, recruiting and selecting participants.
  • Develop and incorporate individualized educational plans for Upward Bound students in coordination with the director.
  • Develop and administer all academic year curriculum for Junior and Senior students.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly campus exposure events with details and aspects including, attendee roster and trip agenda.
  • Assist in administering individualized tutoring.
  • Act as a voice for Upward Bound at target school meetings.
  • Advocate for participants to target school administration.
  • Develop personalized relationships with participants and parents/guardians.
  • Travel within Utah may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling or related field.
  • Previous experience with 9th-12th grade students.
  • Previous experience teaching
  • Previous experience as a project leader responsible for student-oriented projects.
  • Clear understanding of Utah's post-secondary educational opportunities, admission requirements, application procedures, and financial aid nuances.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, psychology, counseling or related field.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse people in an academic setting.
  • Experience in working with federal grants.
  • Current teaching licensure
  • Experience in successfully planning workshops and events.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Experience working with economically disadvantaged youth.
  • Established connection to, and familiarity with, the local school community, particularly the students, families, schools, and resources available to them.
  • Similar background to that of participants.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comfort with teenage students and advising the adolescent development process.
  • Patience in tutoring and nurturing social and career skills
  • Ability to relate to program participants
