Position Summary/ Department Summary:
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Per Diem

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing individualized care for patients. Includes conducting thorough psychiatric assessments, including risk assessment and reviewing past medical history
  • Performing medication reconciliation, reviewing prior medication trials, and prescribing medications as appropriate, ensuring safety and efficacy in the emergency setting
  • Coordinates with social work team to conduct treatment planning and recommendations for level of care decision making
  • Recommending observation levels, creating and implementing agitation plans, and obtaining collateral information for patients boarding in the emergency department.
  • Attending morning rounds, as representative of the ED Psychiatry team, with the medical team and charge nurse to review and coordinate plans for patients boarding in the emergency department.
  • Attend EPS team meetings
  • Supporting the nursing staff, the medical team and the Behavioral Response Team in treating ED patients with acute agitation and unsafe behaviors using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological de-escalation techniques
  • Collaborating with supervising physician and social work to ensure appropriate disposition and continuity of care as well as contacting collaterals upon discharge/transfer
  • Maintaining accurate and timely documentation
  • Ensuring compliance with ethical principles, confidentiality laws and regulations governing psychiatric healthcare
  • Working Saturday and Sunday mornings, working between 4-6 hour shifts depending on season (peak season is winter)
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • A Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN)
Experience:
  • At least 1 year of professional experience performing psychiatric evaluations and psychopharmacology services as a NP
Licensure/ Certifications:
  • Massachusetts licensure as Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse.
  • ANCC certification as a Psychiatric NP

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
