Job Description
The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Sociology position to begin in the fall of 2027.


The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is one of the seventeen member institutions in the University of North Carolina system. The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice is growing in size and offers numerous opportunities for creative teaching, including on-line courses, as well as advancement of scholarship.


Position Responsibilities


The successful candidate will:



  • Teach undergraduate Sociology courses in the classroom and online, including Introduction to Sociology, and Social Problems. There will also be opportunities to teach upper level and graduate level courses.
  • Teach Writing Intensive courses.
  • Develop and deliver engaging instruction using various teaching modalities
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate students
  • Maintain an active research agenda in the discipline
  • Participate actively in university service, including committee work, curriculum development and campus initiatives.
  • Apply discipline-specific skills towards community-engagement with the local community and region.
  • Contribute to a supportive learning environment that promotes student achievement and academic excellence.

Management Preference
Ability to teach undergraduate Social Statistics, Social Research, and Social Inequalities.

Prior experience teaching in higher education both face to face and online. Prefer an individual capable and willing to teach sociology classes, especially social statistics, social research, social inequalities, and possibly medical sociology classes.
Lic or Certification required by statute or regulation
