What We Do First American is seeking a Commercial Underwriting Manager to lead the day-to-day activities of a team of Underwriters while providing underwriting support and expertise related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies. In this role, you'll help ensure the consistent application of underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits while providing guidance in the performance of real estate settlement services.
Location: Hybrid opportunity in Tampa or Orlando, FL.

What You'll Do

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of a team of Underwriters and may also oversee title professionals and support personnel.
  • Provide underwriting support and expertise to company personnel, agents, and customers related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
  • Utilize underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insurance.
  • Provide guidance in the performance of real estate settlement services.

HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE

  • Manage and prioritize the daily operations of a large functional area or department.
  • Lead a team of professionals, including skilled exempt and non-exempt employees, providing direct and indirect supervision to support operational and project outcomes.
  • Contribute to project reviews and approve detailed project designs and cost estimates.
  • Participate in long-range departmental planning and provide input on operational decisions, project plans, and scheduling requirements.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and make hiring and compensation recommendations. May collaborate with Senior and Executive Management on these decisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Juris Doctor preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-7 years of directly related experience in the title industry.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success designing, developing, and executing complex projects within a functional area of expertise.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with management across functional groups and business units.
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to gain buy-in and navigate sensitive situations while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate a clear vision, establish aligned goals, and create systems to measure results.
  • Understanding of competitor, financial, and industry dynamics.
  • Experience recruiting, developing, and retaining talent while fostering accountability, collaboration, and effective change management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service by managing expectations, soliciting feedback, and ensuring commitments are met.
  • Strong communication, presentation, listening, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with leaders to identify and implement solutions that support business effectiveness.
