Under the supervision of the Nursing Manager, the Hospital Assistant III plays a crucial role in delivering patient care and facilitating clinical procedures within the Department of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery. This role involves a range of personal care and clinical tasks, including vital sign monitoring, patient preparation, and assisting with complex medical procedures. The Hospital Assistant III also ensures a professional and helpful working environment, adhering to Medical Center standards and policies. This position is based in outpatient clinical settings across UCSF Health sites, making a difference in patient care and clinic efficiency.


  • Perform routine clinical functions, including vital signs, patient preparation, and documentation.
  • Assist in complex medical procedures and diagnostic testing, such as laser treatments and endoscopy.
  • Act as a chaperone for medical providers and ensure patient safety during transport.
  • Maintain a clean and well-stocked exam environment, ordering supplies and managing lab equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and staff, ensuring a professional and helpful working environment.
  • Comply with infection control procedures and Ambulatory Services policies, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, such as wait time studies and data collection.
  • Provide excellent customer service and patient education, ensuring a positive care experience.
  • Collaborate with the clinical nursing staff and adhere to the Telephone and House Standards.
  • Ensure optimal clinic schedules by advocating for provider punctuality and managing patient flow.
  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • One year of experience as a Medical Assistant/Hospital Assistant in a medical practice.
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.
  • Superior customer service and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patient care.
  • Experience using and documenting within an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Previous experience in procedural/surgical specialty practices is preferred.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and supply chain processes is an asset.
  • Interest in pursuing advanced healthcare training or clinical careers.
  • Proficiency in using Box, Excel, Outlook, Teams, or similar collaboration platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to changing clinic needs.
  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • One year of experience as a Medical Assistant/Hospital Assistant in a medical practice.
