Overview
Role Title: Brand & Packaging Production Designer Department: Creative Reports To: Art Director Role Overview The Brand & Packaging Production Designer brings creative concepts to life, transforming initial vision into production-ready packaging and high-impact brand assets. Designed for a hands-on, adaptable creative who thrives in a fast-paced environment, this role spans the full production pipeline from structural feasibility to final file handoff. Working under the guidance of the Art Director within a nimble, collaborative Creative team, you will ensure every asset is aesthetically compelling, functionally viable, and compliant with industry regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Production Design & Execution: Translate high-level design concepts into accurate, production-ready mechanicals, carefully applying brand guidelines, typography, color management, and layout specifications.
- Asset Rendering & Visualization: Build realistic packaging renderings, mockups, and digital assets for cross-functional needs, executive reviews, and Sales/Marketing presentation decks.
- Prototyping & Testing: Craft physical prototypes and mockups to test functional utility, refine designs based on feedback, and ensure structural integrity and cost-effectiveness.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Art Direction, Product Development, and Production teams to optimize designs for scalability, mass manufacturing, and project timelines.
- Regulatory Compliance & Sustainability: Ensure all packaging designs adhere to labeling laws, product info specs, and safety mandates (including FDA/Health Canada guidelines). Integrate eco-friendly materials and sustainable design solutions where feasible.
- File Management & System Organization: Maintain clean, version-controlled file structures and asset archives across cloud storage systems (Dropbox).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Design Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Working knowledge of Figma is a strong plus.
- Technical Packaging Knowledge: Deep understanding of pre-press processes, print production, dielines, substrate selection, structural design, and packaging materials.
- Precision & Detail: High visual acuity and attention to detail when executing color theory, typography, and complex layout mechanics under Art Director guidance.
- Regulatory Awareness: General familiarity with FDA and Health Canada packaging and labeling compliance standards in the beauty/personal care sector.
- Project & Time Management: Ability to balance competing priorities and tight deadlines. Experience with workflow tools like Monday.com is preferred.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Packaging Design, or a related field.
- 5+ years of production design experience, with direct experience in the beauty, personal care, or CPG space preferred.
