Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Software Engineer to lead the design and development of system-level / desktop applications for semiconductor equipment control software. The role demands deep technical expertise, full ownership of critical components, and the ability to drive complex features across cross-functional teams while mentoring the next generation of engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance desktop/system-level applications in Core Java
  • Own end-to-end delivery of features: requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, and release
  • Drive architecture decisions, design reviews, and technical direction for critical software components
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams - Systems, Hardware, QA, and Field Support for feature development and issue resolution
  • Lead debugging, root cause analysis and resolution of complex issues including customer escalations
  • Ensure high code quality, scalability, and long-term maintainability of software components
  • Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to team capability building and engineering best practices
  • Support project planning, estimation, and execution tracking for development work
  • Produce and review clear design documentation to ensure component maintainability and knowledge continuity
Mandatory skills
  • Strong hands-on experience in Core Java and/or C++ development (10+ years)
  • Deep understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and SOLID design principles
  • Expertise in system design, modular architecture, and proven design patterns
  • Hands-on experience in end-to-end software development lifecycle (design dev test release)
  • Proficiency in multi-threaded programming, concurrency management, and performance optimization
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills for complex technical challenges
  • Proven ability to handle production/customer escalations and deliver quality fixes under pressure
  • Ability to drive technical discussions, design reviews, and cross-team alignment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with strong stakeholder collaboration skills
Who we're looking for

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Instumentation Engineering with 8+ years of experience; or Master's degree with 6+ years' experience; or a PhD with 3+ years' experience; or equivalent experience.
Preferred skills
  • Exposure to semiconductor equipment manufacturing or embedded/machine control software domain
  • Experience working on QNX / Linux-based systems or hardware interacting software
  • Familiarity with debugging complex field issues and supporting deployed production systems
  • Experience with tools: Jira, Git/SVN, Jenkins, or similar CI/CD practices
  • Prior involvement in RCCA processes, customer escalations, or field-driven defect resolution
  • Experience in mentoring engineers or leading small technical workstreams

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. 'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
