| Position Summary |
The Parsons Mathematics Assistance Center (known as the Math Lab) at
UNC Asheville provides high-quality academic support in mathematics and statistics through extensive drop-in tutoring services. The Director leads all Math Lab operations, including recruiting, training, scheduling, and evaluating staff and tutors, and managing policies, budgets, technology, and assessment efforts. This role requires strong mathematical expertise, effective communication skills, and commitment to fostering a welcoming, student-centered learning environment that supports academic success. |

| Required Education/Experience/Skills |
- Master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field.
- Candidates must have the ability to effectively assist with college-level mathematics through the 300-level and introductory statistics.
- Candidates must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- The successful candidate must be able to function professionally in a highly collaborative and increasingly dynamic organization.

| Preferred Education/Experience/Skills |
- Minimum of four years' experience teaching/tutoring mathematics, statistics, physics, and/or computer science at various levels.
- Administrative or supervisory experience in an educational setting.
- Proficient skills in teaching and tutoring precalculus, calculus sequence, linear algebra, differential equations, various levels of statistics, and introductory physics I and II.
- Familiarity with programming languages, such as R and Python.
- Candidates must be able to work within and with a dynamic community, possess effective communication skills and be willing to expand their knowledge to other math and science topics.

This position requires:
- Extensive knowledge of mathematics: specifically precalculus algebra, trigonometry, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, statistics, and computer science programming.
- Ability to work with a diverse range of students and with many students and topics concurrently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to convey subject matter to students in a supportive manner.
- Ability to organize and coordinate the activities and personnel of a busy tutoring center and foster a welcoming, student-focused learning environment.
