The Maintenance Tech 1 performs preventive and assigned maintenance tasks, when not responding to service requests, assists in the fulfillment of the department maintenance program. Responds to fire alarms and requests by Safety and Security to provide a rapid response to emergency situations during assigned shifts. Responds to requests for engineering services from customers during assigned shifts to provide an environment that is free of hazards and conducive to patient care within available resources. Evaluates work requests for engineering services to ascertain if tasks are within the team member's capabilities/resources. Evaluates work requests requiring additional resources to determine if the work can be deferred to the next day shift or requires a call-in for immediate resolution.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests for Safety and Security to assist in the evacuation of passengers trapped in an elevator within five minutes of notification in accordance with procedures established by department policy.
  • Inspects critical engineering machine rooms and work spaces in accordance with established procedures to ensure that critical systems are operating within proper limits.
  • Responds to requests for engineering services from customers by overhead page or pager within three minutes after being alerted.
  • Performs assigned preventive maintenance tasks when not engaged in responding to work requests.
  • Responds to locations designated by the fire alarm system with tools within five minutes of the fire alarm announcement.
  • Re-lamps assigned areas of the hospital when not performing engineering service requests.
  • Evaluates the urgency of any work request requiring a call-in.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Or a Graduate of a recognized program of instruction on building maintenance or successful completion of all the competencies of the Department of Engineering Maintenance Mechanic I training program
