Medstar Health is looking for a Full-time Cardiac Sonographer / Echocardiograph Technologist to join our team at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital! The ideal candidate will have echocardiography practice experience, the ability to recognize emergency medical situations, analytical, mathematical, organizational and problem-solving skills.

TheEchocardiograph Technologistwillperform echocardiography studies,Holterscanningand exercise stress tests.Assistsin the implementation of protocols and procedures.

Primary Duties:

  • Accurately completes all departmental and MedStar Health billing requirements promptly.Directs reports as requested orrequiredand ensures completeness and accuracy of required patient data prior to billing and interpretation.Maintains statistics asrequired.Assistsinmaintaininginternal and external cardiology supply inventories. Completes all related procedures prior to performance of the test.Assistswith the planning andtimelyscheduling of all cardiology tests. Clarifies testingrequestin ambiguous situations. Communicates information about specific test(s) to the patient and family explaining procedure prior to testing.

  • Consistently performs hookup proceduresand scanning analysis proceduresfor Holter monitors,cardiac eventrecordersand Zio Patch units. Demonstratesaccuratelead placement and calibration procedures as required by individual equipment.Cleans,disinfects,andmaintainscardiology equipment as per department protocol.

  • Consistently performs stress echo procedures including echo imaging and Doppler.Accurately performs EKG and blood pressure determination during procedure following department protocols.Assistsin monitoring patient condition and safety during procedureidentifyingand documenting cardiac abnormalities related to patient symptoms and/or diagnosis. Consistently performs stress test procedures as per department protocol.Assistsin monitoring patient condition and safety during procedureidentifyingand documenting cardiac abnormalities related to patient symptoms and/or diagnosis.

  • Consistently performs technically competent EKG tracings with all required patient information displayed. Demonstratesaccuratelead placement. Ensures all patient information is entered prior to performance of EKG.EnsuresEKG is transmitted into the MUSE system via wireless connection,modem,or disc asappropriate. Completes preparation of EKG tracing for physician review.

  • Consistently performs transesophageal echocardiographic imaging and cardiac Doppler.Performs transthoracic echocardiographic imaging and cardiac Doppler.Obtains and recordsoptimalgray scale images,optimalcolor flow,optimalDoppler signals,measurements,and calculations. During test procedures,identifiesand documents cardiac abnormalities related to the patient's symptoms and/or diagnosis.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 6 months of echocardiography practice experience and the performance of at least 100 echocardiogram/ doppler examinations.

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)or registry-eligible in Cardiovascular Technologyfrom American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).

  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or Canadian Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CRCS) from Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP) within 1 year of hiring.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits-IAC-Echo accreditation standards.

  • Successful completion of an ultrasound or cardiovascular technology program including verified didactic preferred.

  • Supervised clinical experience in echocardiography preferred.

  • Arrhythmia analysis experience preferred.
