A Machine Operator in print and packaging sets up, adjusts, and runs bindery and flow wrapper equipment. They convert flat printed sheets into finished books and wrap goods in continuous film. Responsibilities include Quality Management documentation, maintaining production speeds, preventing equipment jams, inspecting items for defects, performing routine machine maintenance and tray / finish packing.

Key Responsibilities



  • Machine Setup: Calibrate, adjust, and set up bindery machines (e.g., folders, cutters, labelers, shrink wrappers) and flow wrappers (horizontal film wrappers) according to specific job ticket instructions and paper/film types.
  • Quality Control: Continuously monitor the product flow. Inspect for defects-such as misaligned folds, torn pages, poor seals, or incorrect packaging dimensions. Fill out all necessary Quality documents and audit sheets.
  • Routine Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, including lubricating parts, clearing equipment jams, changing cutting blades, and replacing worn components along with machine sanitization.
  • Workflow & Documentation: Read work instructions, track production numbers, weigh/count finished products, and pack finished goods for shipping.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to plant safety guidelines, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards.


Core Requirements



  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED. Typically requires 1-3 years of manufacturing or machine-operating experience.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose machine errors and quickly resolve mechanical malfunctions on the fly.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, perform repetitive tasks, and frequently lift heavy items (typically 30-40 lbs).
  • Attention to Detail: Precision and patience when dealing with strict measurements and handling finished goods.
