We are seeking an Interim Health Information Management (HIM) Technician to provide interim support for medical records and health information functions within health care facilities. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete resident medical records, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, assisting with electronic medical record management, and supporting facility operations during staffing transitions, surveys, system implementations, or special projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Maintain resident medical records in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Review records for completeness, accuracy, signatures, dates, and required documentation.
  • Assemble, organize, and file medical record documents in electronic and paper formats as needed.
  • Monitor incomplete records and communicate documentation deficiencies to nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Process requests for release of information while maintaining HIPAA compliance and resident confidentiality.
  • Scan, upload, and index documents into electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Assist with chart audits and quality assurance reviews.
  • Support survey preparation activities and provide requested documentation during regulatory surveys.
  • Track and manage physician orders, admission records, discharge records, and other required documentation.
  • Assist with record retention, storage, archiving, and destruction processes.
  • Generate reports related to medical record completion and compliance.
  • Support EHR conversions, implementations, and data cleanup projects.
  • Communicate effectively with facility leadership, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Assist with special projects related to medical records and health information management.
  • Follow all facility, state, federal, and HIPAA privacy and security requirements.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in health information management or a HIM's certification.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in medical records, health information management, healthcare administration, or long-term care.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical record systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred


  • RHIT, RHIA, or Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) credential.
  • Experience in health care settings.
  • Experience with EHR systems.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, CMS regulations, and medical record compliance requirements.


Special Position Requirements:


  • Must maintain all required professional licenses and certifications if applicable.
  • Provide proof of current and in good standing licensure if applicable.
  • Must maintain active driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance upon request.
  • Travel throughout MN may be required.


Physical Demands:


  • Ability to endure prolonged walking, sitting, standing, use of pulling bending and stooping movements.
  • Ability to talk and hear.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to endure the physical demands of traveling. (i.e. air travel and auto travel).

  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in daily work hours and schedule.
