Summary



The Assistant Golf Professional will have an integral role in the daily success of Portage Lake Golf Course. This position will act as the first point of contact with front line employees, members, guests, and students ensuring the success of daily golf operations at Portage Lake Golf Course as well as formulate and implement an effective marketing plan. All duties of the position shall be performed with a commitment to the highest level of customer service and total satisfaction of all customers.



Responsibilities and Essential Duties



1. Responsible for the direct supervision, scheduling, and training of outside services employees. In the event of gaps in service, provide independent judgment to improve the customer experience.
2. Responsible for PLGC's social media and marketing. Implementing consistent communications of upcoming events, event results, and promotional offerings.
3. Responsible for the success of Junior League and Junior Group Lessons.
4. Assist with the development of operating procedures and training manuals.
5. Assist with the oversight of daily golf operations, working a variable schedule including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends as needed. Supervise golf operations in the absence of the Head Golf Professional and General Manager.
6. Control, manage, measure, and report on the flow and pace of play. Ensure patron check in and fee collection in coordination with the starter.
7. Provide excellent customer service and assistance to all customers.
8. Lead the coordination of all golf leagues including scheduling, scoring, communications, and celebrations.
9. Conduct, schedule, and develop instructional programs using PGA tools and resources focused on player development. Meet the needs of a varied clientele. Maintain teaching aids and equipment inventory in excellent condition.
10. Assist with events, tournaments, and outings, including planning, pre-tournament contracts, post-tournament billing, promotion, course set-up, preparation, scoring, prize distribution, and follow-up.
11. Coordinate US Golf Association handicap system.
12. Provide club repair and club fitting services and equipment sales.
13. Assist with all merchandising duties, including sales, inventory, pricing and displays.
14. Maintain a credible, proficient golf game and represent the course professionally by playing with members, patrons, and guests in both competitive and non-competitive settings.
15. Assist in planning and budgeting for golf operations.
16. Assist with critical Auxiliary Business Services events and operational needs during the off-season, providing cross-functional support across auxiliary venues and programs as directed.
17. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
18. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.



Required Education, Certifications, Licensures



* Associates Degree in Business or related field or equivalent experience.
* Member of the Professional Golfers Association, or willing to enroll in PGA Apprenticeship Program demonstrating required competencies to enroll.



Required Experience



* Demonstrated customer service experience.
* Demonstrated experience in event management.



Desirable Education and/or Experience



* Bachelor's degree in Business, Golf Management, or related field.
* PGA Class A Professional.
* Experience utilizing Club Caddie, ForeUp, Jonas, Club Prophet, or similar golf
enterprise software.
* Experience using lean practices and continuous improvement tools.
* Demonstrated experience in golf instruction and group clinics.

* Working knowledge of USGA Rules of Golf and handicap administration.
* Knowledge of social media platforms and digital marketing strategies for
customer engagement.
