BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Ventilation / Furnace Inspector Department of Buildings (Ventilation and Furnace Inspections) Number of Positions: one (1) (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $10,218 / monthly This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SHEET METAL, AIR, RAIL AND TRANSPORTATION WORKERS, LOCAL UNION 73 (BU#41). Only employees currently in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid. Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59 pm CDT on 06/25/2026 Under general supervision, reviews building plans and specifications and conducts inspections of heating, ventilating, and related mechanical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure compliance with applicable provisions of the Chicago Construction Codes, adopted standards, and approved permit documents; and performs related duties as required. Additional duties may be required for this position. Location: 2045 West, Washington Blvd Days: Monday - Friday Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Successful completion of a US Department of Labor-registered sheet metal apprenticeship training program and journeyman status, OR Should the above criteria not be fulfilled, the following options are available: o Successful completion of an industry or company-sponsored apprenticeship training program in the sheet metal trade, plus two (2) years of journey-level work experience in the sheet metal trade o Six (6) years of journey-level experience in the sheet metal trade Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualification * A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required * Must have the permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured, including a clause specifically insuring the City of Chicago from accident liability WORKING CONDITIONS * General office environment * Exposure to outdoor weather conditions * Exposure to loud noise, fumes, or dust * Exposure to extreme temperatures * Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., construction sites) * Work performed above or below ground level * Work performed using scaffolds and a ladder Educational & Employment Verification: Please be advised that if you are selected to be hired, you must provide, upon request, adequate information regarding your education and employment history as it relates to the qualifications of the position for which you are applying.
