About This Role

This position will maintain in-depth knowledge to interpret and provide guidance on federal immigration regulations pertaining to international students and scholars. The position independently advises and serves as a liaison with students, scholars, as well as academic and administrative departments regarding immigration status and overall immigration strategy. It serves as a co-lead support and resource for staff, faculty, and administration on scholar-based immigration and intercultural issues.

This position serves as a liaison with outside legal counsel and works directly with campus departments and international scholars seeking to come to Kansas State University under the following visa types: J-1, H-1B, TN, E-3, O, and U.S. permanent residency.

This position ensures compliance with mandatory health insurance requirements for the J-1 Scholar Program as set forth by the U.S. Department of State, as well as health insurance requirements for F-1 and J-1 students in accordance with Kansas Board of Regents policy.

The International Student and Scholar Services office (ISSS) provides essential immigration services for over 2200 international students and scholars from over 100 countries who are involved in educational programs or research at K-State. Additionally, ISSS welcomes countless American students, faculty, staff and community members in the exploration of other cultures and the celebration of international festivities.


Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and seven years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge related to advising international students (F-1 & J-1) and scholars (J-1 exchange visitors, H-1B and other visa categories. Extensive experience as user with electronic systems and databases used for workflow and record keeping.


Sponsorship eligibility:

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship
