Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The College of Arts & Sciences, administered by the Dean, consists of more than 70 academic departments, curricula, programs, centers, and Institutes. The College is divided into multiple divisions, which are overseen by Senior Associate Deans. All academic departments and curricula are assigned to one of the following three divisions: Fine Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Social Sciences and Global Programs. A fourth division, Undergraduate Education, houses curriculum and instructional innovation, honors and distinguished scholarships, and student academic support. These Senior Associate Deans, along with the Senior Associate Deans for Operations and Strategy, Research and Innovation, and Faculty and Staff Development; Associate Deans for Human Resources and Communications, all report to the Dean.
Position Summary
The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with more than 1,000 faculty members and 20,000+ undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to 43 academic departments, the College is also home to Undergraduate Education, Study Abroad and Honors Carolina. Working in close partnership with University Communications and Marketing, the communications department in the College supports the communications priorities for College leadership, ensuring alignment with the mission of the University.

This public communications specialist role manages the College's social media channels, planning and creating original content to ensure a cohesive message strategy. This position establishes the social media strategy, maintains a social media calendar, creates social media posts, including making photos, videos and graphics as needed, collaborates with others in the department and across campus to support and amplify content, and tracks and analyzes social media post performance, adjusting our strategy as needed. This role serves as the College's expert on social media and advises on changes to existing and evolving social media platforms.

In addition, this public communications specialist role assists the associate dean for communications on internal and executive communications initiatives, media relations planning and outreach, project management and strategic communications planning in support of the academic departments and units in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
