Senior Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer works in conjunction with the Quality Manager and Quality Team to assist in the production of consistent quality product within a manufacturing environment. This position will primarily oversee aspects of quality compliance, implementation and development of quality systems, and ensuring efficient and effective quality assurance for all products. The QE will manage the Quality department day-to-day activities and support other departments within manufacturing as needed. This role will interface with Business Leaders to ensure site compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevant standards, as well as global QMS requirements. This role will also interface with Supplier Quality, Quality Control, Customer Quality, Product Management and Continuous Improvement teams to improve the site's processes.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain site QMS in accordance with ISO 9001 plus other relevant standards (e.g. UL) and global QMS requirements.
  • Lead, create, publish and manage test and verification plans including Engineering Test Requests (ETRs) and Validation plans and reports.
  • Supervise incoming raw material, in-process, and final product testing. Analyze raw and final product test data to ensure statistical trends are in control. Escalate out of control instances.
  • Ensure Quality SAP Master Data is entered and properly verified. Create SAP inspection plans.
  • Drive reduction of Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), customer complaints, and First Pass / Reject Rates.
  • Support customer complaint and product failure investigations to determine root cause and identify corrective / preventive actions. Implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Create work instructions and procedures and provide training on relevant processes.
  • Support supplier and external quality activities including supplier corrective action requests, audits and evaluations.
  • Identify and lead process improvement projects including facilitating process improvement events that improve product quality and/or reduce process variation which include RCCA process for the site.
  • Interact with other plants to resolve inter-plant issues and drive global Quality initiatives.
  • Review Quality KPIs with site leaders and monitor/report on the status of QMS-related items (e.g. CARs, MOCs, internal audits, etc.).
  • Perform internal audits and create / support management of site internal audit schedules.
  • Analyze raw and final product test data to ensure statistical trends are in control. Escalate out of control instances.
  • Restrict suspect material batches physically and in ERP system.
  • Supervise maintenance, calibration and analysis (gage R&R) for laboratory instruments. Identify need for and arrange for purchase of new test equipment.
  • Align and participate in / support all aspects of the Company or site's EHS, 5S, and Continuous Improvement programs, processes and strategic goals.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), Management of Change (MOC) and procurement processes for the Quality function.
  • Participate in 5S and problem-solving events as needed / required.
  • Ensure all documentation including technical drawings, MPIs, QSPs and other instructions on the floor remain controlled and are updated as needed.
  • Follow all health, safety, and housekeeping procedures, policies and practices and consistently work in a safe manner regarding self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems.
  • Wear all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for each activity as required. Look out for team members to follow safety protocols and watch over team members to keep everyone safe.
  • Escalate any hazards upon knowledge.
  • Follow all attendance and mutual respect policies and document work time correctly and accurately for self.
  • Train and assist others.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Four (4) year undergraduate degree in science, engineering or similar field of study (technical major preferred).
  • 5+ years experience in Quality, Process Engineering or related role.
  • Strong leadership record with high degree of organization and accountability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Statistical analysis experience including utilization of Minitab
  • Problem solving skills and experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and ERP
  • Continuous Improvement (Lean Six Sigma) training or experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable of quality standards such as ISO, IATF, FDA, etc.
  • Able to list and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Able to push and pull 5400 to 1500 lbs using handling equipment
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, twist, crouch, squat, kneel and climb
  • Must be able to reach at, below or above shoulder level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing technical workforce
  • ERP (SAP) and Quality Database (QT9) experience
  • Auditor training and experience preferably Lead Auditor Certification
  • Certified Quality Engineer (ASQ)
  • Expert knowledge of SAP QM functional module and Master Data

Our Senior Quality Engineer will earn a variable compensation including annual base salary and annual bonus. Base salary range takes into consideration experience, education, and training. Not to mention all the amazing benefits available for employee selection as well.
