The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra - You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Sr Design Engineer - Brake Systems.

Job Summary

As the design responsible engineer of key systems/components for the Brakes engineering team you will have the opportunity to collaborate with design, engineering, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and service stakeholders to deliver integrated system solutions that balance functional performance, visual execution, cost, weight, quality, and manufacturability. Through deep technical expertise and systemlevel understanding, you will guide requirements, influence design decisions, and drive technical alignment from concept through production and field support, applying Great HarleyDavidson Engineering (GHDE) principles and the frontloaded Product Development Process (PDP).

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, optimize, integrate, and deliver robust component/system designs from concept to production that optimize stakeholder needs.
  • Create CAD models, large virtual assemblies and detailed drawings / PRDs utilizing techniques within Creo Parametric software.
  • Own detailed project plans for requirement setting, part development and procurement, test planning and testing.
  • Leverage analytical methods and test data to help optimize systems and components for cost, weight and quality improvements.
  • Verify system performance to H-D standards, approve supplier validation, and work with test and verification entities to ensure systems meet or exceed targets.
  • Develop designs through technical development and integration with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Support production plants through issue resolution and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Resolve technical issues by applying problem-solving techniques and facilitating cross-functional engineering & test support as needed.
  • Support a Continuous Improvement culture by providing project and part knowledge to enable guideline and specification development.

Bachelor's Degree Required
Education Specifications

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical Degree.

Experience Requirements

The successful candidate will have a minimum of:




  • 5 years of relevant design experience in related field


  • (Experience level may vary based on demonstrated capability and systemlevel impact.)



In addition, they will have demonstrated the following:




  • Understanding of fundamental physics and usage of tools to improve and optimize designs.
  • Success in directly using 3D CAD to develop robust component designs, utilizing engineering calculations, analysis/simulation, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups and other tools.
  • Understanding of Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing at component level.
  • Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization.
  • Success in directly or indirectly leading a team.
  • Familiar with engineering authorizations and changes.
  • Motorcycle rider or desire to learn is appreciated.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
