THE POSITION

Begin a meaningful journey as a County Social Casework Intern with Allegheny County Child Welfare Services. In this role, you will learn how to support children, adults, and families through real-world casework experience. You will work closely with experienced staff and gain hands-on training in many areas of social services. This internship offers a strong foundation for a future career in helping others!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides structured 6-month training and hands-on experience in social casework within a local county government agency. The role supports staff in delivering important services to children, adults, and families. As a County Social Casework Intern, you will perform the following duties:
- Client Interviews: Gather information from clients to help connect them with needed social services
- Service Support: Assist with counseling, placement activities, and guidance in areas such as housing, employment, and daily living
- Case Assistance: Support caseworkers with safety assessments, investigations, home visits, and service referrals
- Program Coordination: Help conduct meetings, make collateral calls, and work with agency staff to plan next steps for client needs
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Internship, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Enrollment as a full time student in a bachelor's degree program in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, or other related behavioral science, and completion of 75 credits, including completion of 15 credits in one of the listed majors.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
