Role Description

The Reliability Analytics team is looking for a Senior Analytical Chemist to build, adapt, and maintain key aspects of our internal characterization services and provide deep technical guidance to colleagues. In this role, you will have a direct and broad impact by helping the company understand how our materials' chemical properties affect battery performance and lifetime. In this role, you will assess and refine analytical methods to characterize the elemental and structural composition of our components, participate in specifying automated analysis equipment, and collaborate with our internal Software Engineering team to streamline analysis automation. You will champion operational excellence of the analytical lab and workflows and directly influence the quality and scalability of our core technology.

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:
  • Develop and document analytical methods to quantify chemical and structural characteristics of Form Energy's component materials.

  • Act as subject matter expert for a broad range of analytical tools and ASTM/ISO methods.

  • Champion operational excellence, ensuring high sample throughput and quality to enable Form to make informed data-based decisions.

  • Maintain robust communication with stakeholders, negotiating analysis requests to stay in line with team capabilities, and identifying areas for optimization.

  • Leverage cloud-based sample management and custom software tools to track complex sample lifecycles, automate data calculation pipelines, and deliver high-integrity analytical results to the broader organization.

  • Expand lab capabilities by specifying, procuring, commissioning, and maintaining new analytical instruments.

What you'll bring:
  • 3+ years of deep hands-on expertise in wet chemistry (e.g. ICP, titration) and thermal/spectroscopic analysis (e.g. FTIR / Raman, TGA, DSC) applied to material characterization

  • B.S. or M.S. or PhD in Chemistry or a related field

  • Proven experience managing a lab environment, overseeing sample queues, and leading technicians in a high-throughput support function

  • Familiarity working within a support function with internal or external customers

  • Experience utilizing cloud-based organizational tools (e.g., Quickbase, Jira) to track process workflows and large datasets

  • Strong communication skills, both among peers and a broader organization
