What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a field-proven technical systems analyst to join Sandia National Laboratories' Tonopah Test Range (TTR) team. This multidisciplinary group designs, develops, and supports advanced systems for national defense programs, homeland security, and non-defense applications. The team employs state-of-the-art technologies, including sophisticated software tools for design, analysis, modeling, and simulation.

In this role, you will provide direct support to the range manager and his delegates, performing duties as directed. You will leverage your broad technical expertise in systems and network architectures to support field testing of experimental weapons, data capture, aircraft tracking, and cueing systems. Your demonstrated experience managing and analyzing technical systems in a remote field environment will be essential. You will apply your component-level knowledge of radar, optical tracking, telemetry/rf systems, and their associated integration architectures to analyze system integration challenges, develop and implement solutions, and assist with solution deployment.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Support the laboratories' flight test mission by maintaining the range's technical systems (optics, radars, telemetry, and others) in a test-ready status for data capture supporting stockpile surveillance flight test assessments.
  • Analyze and evaluate competing characteristics and performance factors between system elements to determine the most effective integrated system solution.
  • Integrate multiple Optical/RF/Digital Sensor Systems to optimize overall system performance in remote field-testing environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolving technical system malfunctions and providing solutions development to enable range readiness supporting flight test missions.
  • Assist in strategic lifecycle management and technical systems recapitalization planning to ensure long-term sustainment and readiness.
  • Develop and refine range processes, procedures, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to operational, facility, infrastructure, and safety requirements by following established range guidance and incorporating corporate safety and work planning processes.
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership as needed to field test support personnel.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally through written reports, presentations, and proposals.
  • Perform other duties as required to support Range operations.

Location and Work Environment:
This position is located at the Tonopah Test Range (TTR), near Tonopah, NV. Applicants must be willing and able to live and work at this remote site for 3-4 days per week. The role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with transportation provided from a designated commuter location in Las Vegas, NV, if applicable.

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering, or other relevant field--or equivalent and relevant experience in lieu of educational certification
  • Minimum of five (5) years of verifiable and directly relevant experience in electronics, electronics systems operations and maintenance, electro-mechanical systems, field engineering principles, or other technical disciplines.
  • Active DOE Q Clearance or equivalent to start.
Qualifications We Desire

  • Proven experience with both legacy and modern field test systems, including the ability to organize, lead, and sustain effective multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Strong background in systems analysis, with demonstrated ability to recommend and implement solutions for complex system or equipment challenges.
  • Broad knowledge of varied technical approaches, with applied experience in integrating, troubleshooting, and diagnosing complex systems.
  • Experience working in remote field test environments; familiarity with Tonopah Test Range operations is a significant plus.
  • Current or prior DOE L or Q clearance, or Department of Defense equivalent, is highly desirable.
  • Experience in designing, planning, and executing technical projects with attention to detail and strategic objectives.
  • Familiarity with Sandia policies and procedures relevant to project execution and compliance.

  • Capacity to perform under high-stress conditions and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
About Our Team

We are charged with the operation of the Tonopah Test Range. The TTR team is responsible for planning and executing the Flight Test portion of the Stockpile Surveillance program. Additionally, a requirement exists to plan and execute tests in support of other Federal Agencies.

Posting Duration

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of three (3) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
