Summary: Responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Assist physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff, and physicians. Performs in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures. Follows the facility's standards for ethical business conduct. Conducts self as a positive role model and team member. Participates in facility committees, meetings, in-services, and activities.
- Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) participates in direct and indirect patient care and health teaching to the full extent of his/her generic and continuing education, competence, and experience.
- This position may delegate duties to other caregivers as required/permitted and will consistently provide appropriate supervision.
- Works with other staff members to meet the goals, objectives, and standards of the unit and contributes to the attainment of divisional and system wide goals and objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriate information. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests. Ability to triage patients appropriately.
- Maintains patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
- Participates in the assessment of the patient's health status by collecting and recording data from documented information, observation, patient/significant other interviews, and other health professionals.
- Participates in nursing diagnosis and patient needs based on assessment data. Includes physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, and spiritual needs as applicable and participates in the identification of expected patient outcomes/goals.
- Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness. Prepares a list of medical supplies needed. Prepares equipment and aids physicians during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
- Observes, records and reports on patient's condition and treatments to physicians.
- Dispenses medication as directed.
- Educates patients/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
- Responds to/refers patient treatment-related phone calls
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Must demonstrate competencies applicable to job positions.
- Perform all other work duties as assigned.
- Performs I.V. therapy procedures.
- Assist Licensed Independent Practitioners with treatments, procedures, and special tests as required.
- Respond promptly, professionally, and calmly to emergency situations.
- Demonstrates effective communications methods and skills, utilizing appropriate reporting channels.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Commits to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers with respect for differences in cultures, values, beliefs and ages, utilizing interpreters when needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One to two years' experience in nursing preferred.
- Comply with established environment of care/safety policies and procedures and all health and safety requirements.
- Maintains and fosters an organized, clean, and safe work environment.
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
- Knowledge of medications and their effect on patients is important.
- Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques, administration of a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
- Skill in preparing/maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to work effectively as team members with physicians and other staff.
- Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families, staff and others.
- Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
- Maintains a collaborative, team relationship with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the group's achievement of goals and to help foster a positive work environment.
- Practices cost containment and fiscal responsibility through the efficient use of supplies, equipment, time, etc.
- Completes established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
EDUCATION: Graduate of School of Practical Nursing Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; Basic Life Support Certification Pay Range: $24.29-$40.07
