The candidate is responsible for electrical design, sizing, cost evaluation, and preparation of technical proposals for Power Quality STATCOM solutions that Nidec provides into the North American market.
This role has a strong technical proposal and customer-facing orientation, supporting the Sales organization during bid and offer phases and continuing through installation, commissioning and startup of the awarded projects. The candidate will be in charge of the technical support during all offer stages.
The candidate is also responsible to interface with the main local suppliers, defining the requirements and writing detailed installation specifications for the project.
Job Description MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES Engineering and System Design
- Analyse customer specifications, grid requirements and project input documentation to define the optimal STATCOM solution.
- Adapt Nidec products to meet specific customer and project requirements using a client-oriented flexible approach.
- Develop and review:
- Single Line Diagram of the system
- AutoCAD General layout of the solution
- Technical offer specification and outsourced components purchasing specifications
- Installation specification
- Perform or support measurement campaign and site surveys when required including evaluation of:
- Space constrains
- Installation, cabling, grounding, and interface requirements
Installation and Site Support
- Review and validate installation concepts, including:
- Equipment layout and disposition
- Cable routing, grounding and auxiliary systems
- Interface with Customer equipment
- Interface with the installation contractors and suppliers to resolve technical issues during the site execution.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Italian Team in Milan.
- Interface with suppliers and subcontractors and with Purchasing Department,
Execution and Commissioning
- Support project execution activities, ensuring technical alignment between offer and final delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Educational qualification
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Power Engineering preferred)
Experience and Technical Skills
- Minimum 7 years of experience in one or more of the areas above: Power Quality / STATCOM / FACTS (or related technologies) and/or MV/HV substation and utility projects (substation engineering / plant engineering) preferred, 5 years minimum required
- Experience in Power Quality systems (STATCOM, FACTS, harmonic filtering) and/or in MV/HV substation and utility projects (substation engineering / plant engineering), including electrical design, SLDs, layout/interface definition and coordination with customers and EPCs
- Familiarity with utility and substation requirements, including technical specifications, interface management (civil/electrical/I&C), grounding and cabling concepts is considered a plus
- Proven experience in technical document preparation
- Use of Electrical CAD tools (AutoCAD or equivalent).
- Knowledge of simulation of digital models as PSSE, TSAT and PSCAD is a plus
