Position Description

The Senior Quality Engineer - Data Center Cooling Systems provides expert quality engineering support for Modine's data center cooling portfolio, with a strong emphasis on resolving field issues during installation and commissioning at customer sites. The role partners with construction managers, commissioning agents, contractors, manufacturing, engineering, and suppliers to ensure robust rootcause analysis, effective corrective actions, and longterm product reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Field Quality, Installation & Commissioning Support:

  • Serve as the primary quality engineering lead for issues arising during installation, commissioning, and earlylife operation of data center cooling systems at customer sites.
  • Work directly with construction managers, commissioning agents, general contractors, and site installation teams to resolve system, mechanical, refrigeration, or controls issues.
  • Troubleshoot fieldreported quality concerns, coordinate immediate containment, and support longterm resolutions.
  • Conduct onsite assessments when necessary to validate installation practices, system configuration, and integration risks.

Root Cause Investigation & Corrective Action Leadership:

  • Lead or support rootcause investigations for production, process, and field quality issues.
  • Develop, implement, and verify the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
    • Facilitate structured problemsolving using 8D, 5Why, Ishikawa, and FMEA.
    • Analyze field service reports, commissioning logs, and performance data to identify trends and recommend preventive actions.

    Manufacturing & Engineering Collaboration:

    • Partner with manufacturing, engineering, supplier quality, and field teams to resolve assembly issues, nonconformances, and process deviations.
    • Support engineering change reviews and validate the quality impact of design or process changes.

    Documentation, Quality System & Audit Support:

    • Review, trend, and close nonconformities and incidents in a timely manner.
    • Participate in internal audits and support ISO 9001 compliance activities.
    • Ensure quality records are generated, retained, and managed per Modine requirements.

    Continuous Improvement & Data Analysis:

    • Identify improvement opportunities through data analysis, statistical tools, and field performance trends.
    • Support Lean, Six Sigma, and manufacturing excellence initiatives.
Required Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in quality engineering, HVAC, refrigeration, thermal systems, or electromechanical systems.
  • Experience supporting installation, startup, or commissioning activities at customer sites.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, refrigeration, or systemlevel issues.
  • Experience interacting with construction managers, contractors, or commissioning teams.
  • Proficiency with structured RCA and problemsolving tools (8D, 5Why, FMEA).
  • Strong analytical skills with field data interpretation capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in data center cooling, precision cooling, or HVAC manufacturing.
  • ISO 9001 familiarity.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification.
  • Field service or customer escalation support experience.
