Position Title: MuleSoft Technical Architect Location: Remote (In the U.S) x Hybrid _(2 days a week) Onsite (city, state) Other Considerations: U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Required)
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a MuleSoft Technical Architect to join our team supporting a high-profile software development project in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In this role, you will serve as the enterprise integration authority responsible for MuleSoft architecture, governance, platform sustainment, and executive-level technical leadership. You will lead the design and oversight of API-led integrations, manage platform health and risk, and ensure all integration solutions are scalable, secure, compliant, and aligned with federal and contractual requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and define enterprise integration architecture using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform and API-led connectivity patterns (System, Process, Experience layers).
- Serve as the final technical authority for MuleSoft architecture, governance decisions, and integration standards.
- Define and maintain reusable integration patterns, API specifications, Exchange assets, and enterprise architecture artifacts.
- Ensure modular, scalable, and secure integration design across all connected VA mission systems
- Oversee API documentation, publication, and reuse across the enterprise.
- Support development of System Integration Reports and Secure Integration Mechanism documentation.
- Ensure all integration work aligns with OMEGA PWS, SOW, and CLIN deliverables, as well as VA governance processes.
- Maintain compliance with ATO, RMF, FedRAMP, and federal security requirements.
- Lead or participate in Architecture Review Boards (ARB) and maintain defensible documentation of architectural decisions.
- Provide executive-level reporting on platform health, risks, mitigation strategies, and forward-looking integration considerations.
- Maintain a forward-looking risk register, including probability, impact, mitigation strategy, and escalation triggers.
- Escalate material risks within one business day of identification.
- Oversee CI/CD governance including Git strategy, branch management, automated testing, deployment pipelines, and version control.
- Ensure release readiness through validation, deployment oversight, and post-release verification.
- Support disaster recovery planning, backup/restore processes, and operational continuity.
- Monitor platform performance and health using Anypoint Monitoring, Dynatrace, or similar tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Salesforce, Microsoft, Cybersecurity, Release Management, and PMO stakeholders.
- Coordinate integration efforts across enterprise platforms to ensure consistency, reuse, and alignment
- Partner with VA stakeholders on compliance activities, including ATO and RMF processes.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and clear direction to MuleSoft team members.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Willingness to obtain a Public Trust clearance
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or Bachelor's + 10 years additional experience per contract guidelines).
- 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including at least 7 years with MuleSoft (Mule 4 / Anypoint Platform).
- 5+ years of experience in an architect-level or senior technical leadership role.
- Strong experience designing and implementing API-led architectures and enterprise integration patterns.
- Hands-on experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (Design Center, Studio, API Manager, Runtime Manager, Exchange).
- Experience with CloudHub 2.0 and/or Runtime Fabric (RTF).
- Strong understanding of secure API design (OAuth 2.0, JWT, SAML, encryption).
- Experience with REST, SOAP, and event-driven integration models.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices for integration platforms.
- Experience working in federal or highly regulated environments (ATO, RMF, FedRAMP).
- Strong communication, leadership, and executive reporting skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday (list any 8:00AM - 5:00PM EST). Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs.
