Clinical Medical Physicist

The University of California, Davis Department of Radiology is actively recruiting two (2) full-time clinical medical physicists at the Assistant or Associate rank in the Clinical "X" or Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) series.

Faculty in the Clinical X series are expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service.

Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.

The Division of Medical Physics within the Department of Radiology is searching for team members to continue to advance and transform medical imaging through both excellence in clinical care and research innovations. UC Davis Health continues to expand to better serve our patients, highlighted by the installation of next-generation imaging systems spanning a wide range of modalities and specialties. In this role, these candidates will join a team of Medical Physicists who are actively engaged in quality improvements and clinical research initiatives. The position requires clinical, teaching, research, and service involvement.

The successful candidates will actively support the clinical imaging operation to ensure top-quality clinical service, working with physicians to address issues such as those relating to clinical image quality. We are seeking clinically driven medical physicists with versatility and experience in a range of imaging modalities. Core responsibilities include supporting inpatient and outpatient facilities in the surrounding communities for both diagnostic equipment (such as DR, MG, RF, XA, CT, US) and nuclear medicine (SPECT/CT and PET/CT). These physicists will be responsible for instrumentation physics, shielding design, annual testing, and accreditation evaluations to ensure compliance and adherence to regulatory requirements. They will perform quality control and assurance, and dose calculations. They will initiate, advise, and assist with transitions to new systems, spanning new hardware upgrades, updated quality assurance and QC workflows, and new clinical protocols.

Candidates will also be responsible for delivering educational lectures to radiology residents, physician groups, medical physics residents, and students. Teaching duties include the occasional teaching of clinical staff, such as technologists, physicians, nurses, etc., particularly during the introduction of new hardware, quality control workflows, or protocols.

Candidates will actively support research and contribute to facilitating cross-departmental research efforts in collaboration with other PhD and MD faculty.

The successful candidate will also participate in professional and healthcare conferences and in training programs to represent the interests of UC Davis Health and advance Radiology Physics practice.

* Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Imaging Science or a related field.

* Diagnostic imaging physics certification by American Board of Radiology, OR board eligible.

* Expertise in interventional radiology/cardiac cath, CT, mammography, and ultrasound.

* Expertise in nuclear medicine, including PET/CT system and SPECT/CT systems.

* Experience with providing technical support and performing quality control within a clinical imaging environment in collaboration with radiologists and technologists.

* Experience with information technology and data handling in the medical imaging context.

* Have hands-on experience in performing quality assurance and acceptance testing, including characterization of image quality and radiation dose metrics, ACR accreditation procedures, and determination of system accuracy, etc.

* Track record of conducting research in the field of medical imaging.

* Experience with multi-disciplinary collaboration across a range of medical disciplines

* Experience in academic teaching and mentoring

* Experience with academic/industry partnerships

* Experience with radioembolization, such as Y-90 treatments.

* Board certified in Nuclear Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine (ABSNM)

* Evidence of scholarly activity demonstrated by publications in high-quality peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentations at national/international conferences
