DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, will perform a full range of duties in a specialized functional area and able to perform all general tasks in all areas of pharmacy. Assists the pharmacist in the preparation of medications for patient use (oral and parenteral) according to established procedures; assist in the distribution of medications; maintains skills applicable to all information systems within the pharmacy, recordkeeping, and billing functions; maintain inventory levels; and perform other duties as assigned. Will perform assigned operational duties in a scheduled area and will assist pharmacists in completing medication orders and related distribution duties in the assigned area.

Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the Pharm Tech II or Pharm Tech III.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required for Pharmacy Tech III.

  • Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy required for both Pharmacy Tech II/III.

  • Minimum of two (2) years for Pharmacy Tech II of retail experience is required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years for Pharmacy Tech III of retail experience is required.

  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations.

  • Proficient computer experience and accurate data entry skills.

  • Detail and organizational skills to sort, file and retrieve information.

  • Ability to manage assigned workload within deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a self-directed work team environment and function effectively in a high-volume, multiple demand environment.

  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a specialty pharmacy or in an HIV Care Pharmacy.

  • Experience with packaging and shipping prescriptions through various couriers.

  • 340b Regulatory knowledge and background.

  • Previous retail pharmacy experience in specialty diseases (i.e. Multiple Sclerosis, Oncology, Rheumatoid Arthritis, HIV/AIDS, Transplant, Hepatitis C).

  • Thorough ability and willingness to seek out additional copayment support programs for high cost medications

  • Desire to achieve a desirable patient care outcome with each encounter

  • Comply with additionally required specialty disease competency programs required by accreditation commissions

  • Comfortable with public speaking and able to promote a justifiable position

  • Flexible to address any pharmacy need that may arise, especially those that are unexpected and occur suddenly

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $54,998 - $68,403 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.34 - $32.76

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
