The Application Engineering Technical Manager manages a team of engineers responsible for supporting coating applications-including electrodeposition, powder, and liquid systems-in Sherwin-Williams's North America General Industrial Business. This position is part of the Global General Industrial R&D technology leadership group and works closely with the North America Leadership Team on both regional and global projects throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico. Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. - Works collaboratively with General Industrial Sales, Technical and Marketing teams to support and secure new business as well as maintaining current customer base.
- Manages the Application Engineering team project workload, including prioritization and communication to critical stakeholders.
- Oversee hiring, training, and career development for engineers.
- Completes, delivers, and oversees individual performance management reviews, succession planning, and establishes employee professional development goals to support future business needs
- Builds and sustains customer and supplier relationships to drive new and existing business growth.
- Promotes a safe work environment by driving safety practices, safe equipment utilization and maintenance in the application laboratories.
- Develops and manages all capital expenditures within the North America General Industrial application laboratories.
- Holds the engineering team accountable for implementing new technology, product development, and business goals and objectives.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). * Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field. * Must be at least 18 years of age. * Minimum 10 years industry experience in the application of liquid, powder or electrodeposition coatings; or the formulation and development of liquid, powder or electrodeposition industrial coatings. * Laboratory management of teams >6. * Strong strategic perspective and ability to deal with complex requirements and set priorities * Structured, data-based rational thinker and strong execution skills. * Strong industrial market knowledge, customer experience, and demonstrated relationships with Sales and Marketing groups. * Knowledge of related Regional markets, product stewardship, and regulatory requirements. * Proven leadership experience. * Project management experience. * Ability to speak and write/read English. * Technical understanding and knowledge in industrial coatings application and chemistry * Coatings application methods and evaluations experience. * Coatings formulation experience. * General computer skills - MS Office Suite PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Masters or higher degree * Design of Experiments (DOE) * Math and Statistic Software - JMP or Minitab Travel Requirements: 30% Domestic and International This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H-1B visa.
