Position Overview:
The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for an Academic Coordinator II position at UC Cooperative Extension, Humboldt office, in Eureka, CA.
Location Headquarters: UCCE, Eureka, CA.
Purpose:
The Academic Coordinator II will assist in content development, partner coordination, and project implementation of the Fire Resilience and Workforce Development Program. Specifically, this position will collaborate with UC ANR staff, including the ANR Fire Network, and strategic partners to develop educational curricula to increase fire resiliency in California across a variety of stakeholders and thematic areas. The coordinator will also communicate science-based research, pursue new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers, both internal and external to UC ANR, and build relationships with project partners across the state. This curriculum will be delivered in both online and in-person formats. The coordinator will also help teach components of the program.
The Fire Resilience Education and Workforce Development Program will help California's citizens, professionals, and communities accelerate fire adaptation and resilience. This program will develop and deliver comprehensive fire education supporting workforce development and action planning. Through this program, the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources team is leveraging its in-house expertise, in partnership with CAL FIRE and other groups, to develop educational programming in fire. The program aims to bolster a fundamental understanding of the components of wildfire risk at home, community, and landscape scales. These targeted trainings will reduce the threat of wildfire by inspiring action, standardizing messaging, and invigorating community planning and risk reduction.
The Academic Coordinator II will also assist in fire science outreach and education for Northern California as a part of the California Fire Science Consortium, which leads fire science delivery for the interested public, including private and public land managers. The Academic Coordinator will also help in the coordination and implementation of activities associated with the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association, which collaborates with regional partners to lead a fire educational program aimed at increasing the skills and qualifications of the North Coast's prescribed fire practitioner community.
Alignment. As described in UC ANR's Vision 2040, California faces a complex, ever-changing regulatory environment that requires science-based input and community engagement to inform policy, management decisions, and implementation. Now more than ever, solutions are needed to mitigate the impact of extreme weather events and other disasters, advance more efficient agricultural production, further sustainable land stewardship, strengthen food systems, and build resiliency to the future impacts of social, political, and ecological challenges. As these challenges increase in complexity, so, too, do their solutions. Local, state, and federal policies and regulations must adapt and be responsive, taking into consideration current scientific and technological advances.
This position will help UC ANR achieve its mission of cultivating thriving communities, sustainable agriculture, resilient ecosystems, and economic prosperity in California by developing and sharing equitable, collaborative, science-based solutions with national and global impact. Through research, education, extension, and outreach, this position will contribute to each of UC ANR's Public Value Statements.

The Academic Coordinator II clientele is broad, including natural resource managers, homeowners, and landowners, as well as professionals who support homeowners, landowners, and land managers (e.g., foresters, building contractors, realtors, landscapers, etc.).
