Job Summary

The managing editor plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of a news desk, providing newsroom communications to all key stakeholders, ensuring the production of high-quality, accurate, and engaging content across multiple platforms. They work closely with reporters, editors, content producers and senior executives to develop real-time editorial strategies, manage workflows, and maintain ethical journalism standards. This position requires strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to balance breaking news with in-depth coverage while driving audience engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Implement editorial strategies and set the news desk's daily and long-term coverage priorities.
  • Supervise and mentor editors, reporters, and content producers to maintain high journalistic standards.
  • Ensure accuracy, fairness, and compliance with ethical guidelines in all reporting.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to shape content strategies across broadcast, digital and social media.
  • Oversee the editing and production of news articles, features, and investigative reports.
  • Collaborate with reporters on timely story submission, oversee copy edit and content distribution.
  • Team up with special investigative reporters on long-form stories from start to finish.
  • Copy edit story submissions, write supporting articles for broadcast stories and generate break news promotional copy.
  • Manage newsroom resources, assignments, and deadlines to maintain efficiency.
  • Coordinate breaking news promotions across multiple platforms including web, app and social media.
  • Monitor industry trends, audience behavior, and competitive media landscapes.
  • Guide and implement newsroom policies and workflows to enhance productivity and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, media, journalism or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience of building and executing digital strategies in news or media
  • 5+ years of experience at a fast-paced and complex organization
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Experience writing headlines, longform news articles and social post copy
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate performance data
  • Experience with digital management tools and analytics platforms
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet competing deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a large, multifaceted team
  • A collaborative results-oriented working style

Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $77,112.00-$126,684.00/ year. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
