Electrical Engineer - 26-004 - San Diego, CA

As a growing Department of Defense Contractor, AUSGAR Technologies has an exciting NEW opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join our team of smart and innovative technical team members at NIWC PAC - Bayside in the Point Loma area of San Diego, CA.

Join a fast-paced team working to design and prototype embedded hardware for rugged radiation detection systems. Collaborate with a team of engineers to design and prototype embedded hardware, firmware and software. Directly involved in design, development and testing of system components, including circuit boards, analog and digital sensors, batteries and power supplies. Contribute to the team at all stages of design and prototyping, from initial concept development to rapid design and testing efforts, as well as supporting manufacture of engineering prototype systems and planning and executing real-world demonstrations for customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify engineering challenges and recommend component and/or system designs to solve them.
  • Design, prototype and test system components in collaboration with project leads and team members.
  • Work within multi-disciplinary team of radiation, mechanical, material, electrical and software engineers to successfully integrate prototype components into full-scale engineering prototype systems.
  • Contribute to component-level and system-level testing throughout development.
  • Conduct research and testing as needed to understand and then correct component-level design and manufacturing flaws when they are found.
  • Develop and maintain design and manufacturing documentation and procedures.
  • Mentor early-career electrical engineers assigned to the engineering team.
Requirements

  • Possess (preferred) or be able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 8+ years of experience in detailed design and prototyping of electronic components.
  • 5+ years of experience in circuit design and CAD layout software (Altium Designer, OrCAD, PADS, etc.)
  • Hardware design and layout experience are greatly desired.
  • Experience in one or more of the following design areas:

o Analog and digital circuit board circuit design, layout, manufacturing and testing

o Embedded digital signal processing (DSP)

  • Experience with battery assembly, welding tabs and related tooling.
  • Technical proficiency with mechanical assembly, soldering and electrical connectors.
  • Working knowledge of common test equipment

o DC power supplies

o Digital multimeters

o Oscilloscopes

o Logic analyzers

o Vendor specific programmers or debuggers.

  • Knowledge of electronics fabrication and assembly
  • Familiarity with basic configuration control
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and safety, lab best practices and data logging tools
  • Ability to manage and track inventory and maintain an orderly lab environment.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret complex technical documents.
  • Ability to clearly document findings and follow technical instructions.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas orally and visually.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, as well as attention to detail and documentation habits
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio)
  • Proficiency in Electrical CAD software
  • Comfortable with repetitive manual tasks and physical work (including lifting up 50 lbs. within safety guidelines)
  • Willingness to travel infrequently for testing or product demonstrations.

Working Conditions:

  • Hands-on lab environment with regular use of hand tools, electrical tools and lab equipment.
  • May involve standing for extended periods and performing repetitive assembly tasks.
  • Must follow all lab safety protocols, including PPE usage.

Salary Range: $150K-165K

Based on your qualifications, you will be placed in Level I-V.

An essential qualification for this position is successfully obtaining a security clearance issued by the Federal Government, which may require successful completion of a background check.

AUSGAR's salary range is dependent upon a variety of factors, which include experience, skills, education, certifications and geographical location. Our salary range includes a base salary and excellent benefits package as part of our total compensation.
