Our Electrical Connections Product Development team is seeking a Senior Product Development Mechanical responsible for leading complex product development initiatives across the ERICO, ILSCO, and ERIFLEX portfolios. This role drives innovation, mechanical architecture decisions, and crossfunctional collaboration to accelerate NPI success and expand nVent's leadership in electrical connections. This position has direct impact on portfolio vitality, product roadmap acceleration, revenue growth, and global competitiveness of nVent's Electrical Connections segment.
Key role responsibilities Project Planning & Execution
- Lead end to end execution of mechanical system development, including feasibility evaluations, prototype builds, customer informed iterations, validation testing, agency certification, and commercialization.
- Develop complete and accurate material, component, and product specifications, ensuring alignment with quality standards and supporting the creation of robust quality assurance procedures.
- Plan, execute, and refine engineering tasks by translating product requirements into structured workstreams, defining clear milestones, and maintaining a well prioritized engineering backlog that supports NPI timelines.
- Validate mechanical designs through rigorous testing, iterative prototyping, and coordination of third party compliance, certification activities, and performance conformance evaluations.
- Support launch readiness by partnering with commercial teams and leading NPI specific training across internal and customer facing groups.
- Maintain full accountability for engineering deliverables within the gated NPI process, ensuring readiness for each phase and driving on time progression through the development cycle.
- Provide technical leadership in design reviews, FMEAs, and structured risk mitigation efforts, ensuring robust engineering decisions and early identification of technical risk
Funnel Generation
- Act as a technical voice in the field-engaging directly with endusers to understand installation, performance, and usability issues, and returning welldefined, feasibilitygrounded project ideas that strengthen the NPI funnel and guide future product direction.
- Lead advance research initiatives that uncover and de risk emerging materials, processes, and technologies-removing technical barriers and unlocking foundational capabilities that enable one or multiple future NPI projects.
qualifications and experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Ideally 5+ Years of related experience
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills; exceptional attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication; highly collaborative with the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and drive crossfunctional alignment.
- Proficient in SolidWorks assemblies, modeling, drawings, and PDM/PLM systems; experienced in digital prototyping and rapid design iteration.
- Strong understanding of metals, polymers, and composite materials, with handson experience in forging, stamping, machining, molding, overmolding, and additive manufacturing.
- Experienced with thermal and mechanical simulation tools such as SolidWorks Simulation and ANSYS.
- Knowledgeable in UL, IEEE, and IEC compliance requirements; effective in coordinating with global manufacturing, sourcing teams, and test laboratories.
