Position Summary

The Department of General Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital (BCH), in partnership with the CHMC Surgical Foundation, is seeking an experienced Executive Administrative Director (EAD). This role provides executive leadership and operational oversight for the Department of General Surgery and numerous multidisciplinary centers and clinical programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall management, strategic development, and fiscal oversight of the General Surgery Department and Surgical Foundation
  • Oversee operational, administrative, and financial functions, including medical staff appointments, budgeting, billing, and regulatory compliance
  • Partner with the Chief of Service and Vice President to develop, execute, and monitor strategic plans aligned with departmental, foundation, and BCH institutional goals
  • Be accountable to the Chief of Service, Vice President, and Foundation Board of Directors for business development activities, as applicable
  • Collaborate with faculty and BCH leadership on the development, implementation, and oversight of new clinical and academic programs
  • Lead and facilitate staff and physician faculty meetings to communicate policies, procedures, and operational updates, and to gather input
  • Oversee employee payroll and benefits, as applicable
  • Serve as an active liaison and coordinator with all satellite practices and affiliated sites
  • Ensure accurate, compliant insurance billing and coding practices across department and foundation payors
  • Act as the lead executive in coordination, negotiation, and collaboration with the Physician Organization
  • Develop, plan, and monitor operating and capital budgets in collaboration with the Chief and BCH leadership
  • Collaborate with the Chief and Principal Investigators to support the research mission and provide financial oversight of grants and projects
  • Ensure preparation and presentation for the Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors and compliance with all state and federal requirements for a 501(c)(3) organization
  • Participate on hospital task forces and committees as needed
  • Jointly report to the Chief of Service / Foundation President and the BCH Vice President of Surgical Services

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred in Business, Public Health, or Health Care Administration
  • Ten or more years of senior leadership experience, preferably in an academic medical center or complex health care environment
  • Strong knowledge of health care IT systems and technology-enabled workflows
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams, manage complex operational and ethical challenges, and collaborate effectively with peer leaders

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
