The role of a Worthington Steel Quality Specialist is to increase shareholder value by minimizing the Cost of Quality and providing the Customer with a product that meets their expectation in the spirit of Our Philosophy. This role supports manufacturing operations and promotes a safe, customer-focused, and compliant work environment Shift Hours: Monday-Friday, 5:00am-2:00pm Key Position Results
- Accurate evaluation and identification of gaps to internal, regulatory, and customer requirements
- Timely evaluation of systems and processes (adherence to audit schedules and reporting plans)
- Accurate and efficient disposition of nonconforming product
- Detailed reports summarizing data using appropriate quality tools and techniques
- Effective interaction with internal groups and clear documentation of results
- Promotion of safety, quality, and a "customer first" mindset across the facility
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct internal and layered process audits; make data-driven recommendations for improvement
- Support quality-related production issues and participate in daily performance meetings
- Enter, monitor, and analyze scrap, rework, rejection, claims, and inspection data
- Perform routine inspections; collect, track, and submit test samples
- Inspect and disposition nonconforming and hold material; manage DHM and THM holds to defined metrics
- Monitor internal diversions, external claims, and aged hold material
- Drive corrective actions to completion for internal and external quality issues
- Participate in root cause analysis for product and process issues
- Maintain the organization's calibration process
- Support quality programs to ensure compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and audit expectations
- Review suspect material using vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Mill Minder)
- Engage in transformation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Promote and practice company philosophy, safety, and quality standards

- Ability to effectively navigate enterprise systems such as Oracle, Oracle Analytics Cloud, SharePoint, and IQS
Metrics / Performance Indicators
- Safety performance (zero DART / recordable rate)
- Quality goals including COQ, Internal PPM, and External PPM
- Customer-specific quality targets
- Disposition days for internal holds
- Aged hold material (DHM)
- Vision system review effectiveness
Education / Training Preferred
- Quality-related experience in a manufacturing environment
- ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) preferred
