Division Information

Dynacraft, a PACCAR Company, is headquartered in McKinney, TX, a suburb of Dallas. Dynacraft is a diversified global manufacturer of PACCAR medium- and heavy-duty truck parts sold under Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF nameplates. For fifty years Dynacraft has provided the company's truck divisions and PACCAR Parts division with high quality components, subassemblies, and specialized services. Dynacraft has production facilities in Louisville, KY, and McKinney, TX.

Requisition Summary

Dynacraft is looking for a Senior Weld Engineer to support product growth across the division. This position will be located at the McKinney, TX or Louisville, KY facility and the primary responsibilities will be to lead and manage advanced welding projects for the Division. This role involves developing and optimizing welding procedures, conducting failure analysis, and implementing quality assurance processes to enhance welding operations. This role will provide technical guidance to junior engineers and maintenance technicians, collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide DFM/DFA input, and stay current with emerging welding technologies. A strong focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement is essential. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in welding engineering, relevant certifications, familiarity with continuous improvement/Six Sigma methodologies, and excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Expertise in Welding Processes: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of both manual and robotic welding processes including MIG, TIG, SMAW, and resistance welding, ensuring adherence to industry standards and specifications.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage multiple capital projects from concept development to completion, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and alignment with quality standards.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, maintenance technicians, and shop floor associates by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Welding Procedure Development: Develop, implement, review and optimize welding procedures and specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant codes (e.g., AWS, ASME, ISO).
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all welding operations comply with applicable safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and industry standards, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of welding activities, procedures, and inspections; prepare and present reports to stakeholders on project status, challenges, and outcomes.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain quality control processes for welding operations, including the development of inspection criteria, associate training, and the execution of weld inspections.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct failure analysis and troubleshooting of welding defects, leading efforts to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with product design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to integrate welding considerations into product design and production processes.
  • Research and Development: Stay current with advancements in welding technology and techniques; conduct research to innovate and improve welding processes and materials to ensure Dynacraft remains competitive.
  • Talent Development: Support Operations and HR teams in the development and hiring of employees to ensure adequate staffing to meet business needs.
Qualification and Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, and materials science; experience with advanced robotic welding techniques and technologies.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, execute, and oversee capital projects, ensuring they meet specifications and deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully influence others.
  • Ability to work within deadlines to achieve goals.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Creo software to review product designs and factory layouts.
  • Experience with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Candidate must be results and high detail oriented, set priorities and be willing to work in a very diverse team environment.
  • Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience in engineering project management desired.
  • Candidate with Certification as a Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) from recognized organizations such as the American Welding Society (AWS).
Education
  • Bachelor's degree of Science in Electrical Engineering, Automated Welding, Welding Engineering Technologies, Mechanical Engineering or Related Fields (will consider Mechanical or Metallurgy Degree with sufficient welding experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in Robotics, MIG, ARC, TIG, Plasma or resistance welding required.
  • NDE level I (CAWI) or NDE level II (CWI) required.
  • Certified Weld Inspector certification strongly preferred.
  • Master's Degree in technical field preferred.
  • Six Sigma training (BB/GB/LB) desired.
