Job Description

General Summary:

The Director, HCP Marketing Strategy works within the HCP Marketing team for Vertex's U.S. Commercial Pain Business Unit and reports to the Senior Director, HCP Marketing.

In Q1 2025, Vertex launched JOURNAVX, an oral, non-opioid medication for the treatment of moderate-to-severe acute pain. As we enter and plan for sustained growth in year 2 and beyond, we will evolve promotional ideas, adapt to future market events and new competitors and develop an expansion road map for commercialization. This role has responsibility for working within the HCP team to define, evaluate, and build plans for these opportunities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead marketing efforts to deeply understand the evolving health care professional market segments and needs in acute pain
  • Drive the annual brand planning process and ensure that brand strategy is anchored to effective promotional tactics and investment
  • Recommend marketing plan shifts to anticipate and address market opportunities, new competitor entrants, and potential future indications
  • Work across key functions including market access, medical affairs and communications to ensure an integrated HCP promotional plan that delivers highest impact
  • Collaborate with field leadership and marketing team members to obtain input on HCP promotional plans
  • Evaluate and propose relevant promotional KPIs for evaluation of impact
  • Identify opportunities for marketing automation and greater efficiency
  • Manage agency and internal processes to achieve work targets on time and within budget
  • Role model and instill a culture of compliance focused on ethics and integrity in all we do
  • Other related duties as needed for the success of the team

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Developing brand strategy, making implementation plans, and monitoring performance
  • Advanced knowledge of market forecasts and relationship of business drivers to revenue and profitability
  • Leading cross-functional commercial teams
  • Developing creative solutions to complex problems with effective cross-functional partnering
  • Agency management and marketing material development, implementation and assessment
  • Deep experience with regulatory, legal and compliance processes around marketing and promotion
  • Agility in thought and action, accustomed to fast-paced, brand-launch environment

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or scientific degree or equivalent; combination of scientific and business/marketing degrees preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in biotech or pharmaceutical commercialization including direct experience with developing brand strategy, making implementation plans, and monitoring performance
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of time

Pay Range:

$196,000 - $294,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
