Purpose

As a member of the Law School's executive leadership team, the Executive Director is responsible for leading a customer-focused organization that delivers efficient and effective technology systems and services to advance the teaching, research, and service missions of the school and to sustain and enhance the school's eminence in its field. The executive leadership team members are expected on site at the Law School during the academic year.

Responsibilities
  • Executive Leadership
    Lead the Law School's Technology Services staff to create and maintain a modern, service-oriented, professional, cost-effective, and efficient IT service model capable of addressing the various needs of a world-class professional school and its constituents. Assess customer needs and ensure that IT processes and systems integrate effectively with other systems at the University to meet these needs. Stay current on technology advancements, emerging standards and regulations, and industry trends relevant to the Law School's ongoing success. Maintain an awareness of major IT initiatives across legal education, incorporating them whenever they may advance the school's mission.

  • Operational Oversight
    Oversee all aspects of IT support for the Law School, including School-specific solutions in areas such as academic technology; administrative and student systems; e-learning, e-commerce, and communications; and storage and data-center infrastructure; while leveraging systems and infrastructure operated by the University's central IT organization. Oversee the lifecycle of all Law School technology including the purchase, management, and replacement of; and training on; School-owned hardware and software used by faculty, staff, and students. Provide training and support on university-owned hardware, software, and systems (such as VOIP Phone Services, Canvas, and Panopto). Track and provide inventory data as a part of the University's annual inventory process. Play an active role in the onboarding of new faculty and staff including purchasing and launching new equipment, providing training and ongoing support, and managing and troubleshooting access to Law School and university systems.

  • Strategic Project Management and Execution
    Work collaboratively with faculty and staff leadership across the school and with IT and business peers across the University to pursue school-specific objectives while also ensuring that the school remains aligned with university policy and objectives. Ensure appropriate long-range planning for, and address tactical issues of, implementation, service, and support. Communicate proactively within and beyond the school to seek out and identify new opportunities to develop value-added business products and services. Interact with School and University leadership to support the attainment of key outcomes in a manner which promotes teamwork, credibility, and trust. Provide direction and assistance in the development and execution of long-term technology plans that address faculty, student, staff, alumni, and accreditation expectations. Report clearly and regularly to stakeholders on progress towards objectives. Collaborate, coordinate and develop partnerships with other IT organizations across the University. Participate in various formal and informal groups that gather the IT leaders from UT central administration and the schools and colleges that comprise the University.

  • Supervision
    Lead and supervise the Technology Services staff, currently encompassing computer, media, web, and database services. Provide leadership for the staff by developing a highly regarded technology-services organization that sustains a culture of teamwork, respect, collective pride, and individual professional and personal development. Foster a working environment which encourages innovation, collaboration, transparency, and accountability.

  • Other related responsibilities and functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of progressive responsibility in an information technology role.
  • At least 5 years of proven IT leadership experience, including direct management of IT staff, preferably within a large university or public agency.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, project management, and budget management.
  • Proficiency in data management, security and compliance best practices.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategies, defining requirements, and managing projects.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service, with a focus on understanding and meeting the needs of all partners.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of UT Austin policies, procedures, and business applications.
Salary Range

$130,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
