We are looking to fill a sr. credit representative to work first shift onsite out of our corporate office in Southington, CT.
Responsibilities
A Senior Credit Representative responsible for evaluating customer creditworthiness, establishing credit terms within company guidelines, and leading collection strategies for a large, complex account portfolio. They serve as a key financial partner to sales balancing risk mitigation with customer relationship management and revenue objectives.
- Analyze customer payment history, sales trends, profit margins, and future sales potential to establish credit limits, and place or release credit holds.
- Manage and prioritize collection activity through detailed analysis of aging reports to meet cash flow goals and financial objectives.
- Contact customers regarding past-due invoices, damage claims, returned merchandise, and non-sufficient funds (NSF) checks, and negotiate payment resolutions.
- Advise internal stakeholders and external customers on appropriate collection actions and debt repayment strategies based on account risk and status.
- Collaborate closely with Corporate Credit Manager on credit decisions, account disposition, order status, and collection strategies.
- Develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships to support timely resolution of credit and collection issues.
- Issue and oversee demand letters after evaluating account status and prior collection efforts; review with Corporate Credit Manager prior to taking action.
- Reconcile and adjust account debits, credits, and invoices to ensure accurate customer account balances.
- Establish and monitor short-term and long-term account and functional goals aligned with the company's financial strategic plan.
- Maintain accurate documentation of collection efforts and customer financial status in accordance with company policies.
- Support the credit manager in the implementation and ongoing improvement of credit policies, procedures, and programs.
- Assist with providing guidance and training to credit representatives and staff associates.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable credit and collections regulations, industry practices, and internal compliance standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent required; a college degree or credit certification is strongly preferred but not required.
- 5 years work experience related to the duties of the position, preferably in the metals service center industry, manufacturing, or like industry.
- Understanding of accounting principles.
- Ability to analyze information, assess credit worthiness, and make sound credit decisions.
- Proven record of managing a large portfolio of accounts with exceptional customer service, tact, and professionalism.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional negotiation skills for payment terms and dispute resolution.
- A high level of attention to detail is required.
