What to Expect
Tesla's Studio Trim Design team is responsible for the development, optimization, and documentation of soft trim components to support high-quality programs across the company and to push the boundaries of vehicle seating solutions. As a Trim Engineer, your work will involve a wide range of components, including seat frames, actuators, cushions, wire harnesses, controllers, sensors, software, and trim covers. You will manage trim component data, document design details via CAD and PLM systems, interface with materials and hardware suppliers, and organize fabrication of prototype parts. Strong technical communication, a deep understanding of Catia V5/V6, and experience in PLM systems are essential for success in this role.
What You'll Do
- Conceptualize, design, engineer and build seating system parts for prototyping
- Define problems, set targets, and develop product strategies through concept generation and evaluation
- Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and detailed designs with datum, fixation strategies, GD&T, and DFM considerations
- Manage seat trim component data including material type and compatibility, datum control, change traceability, and component numbering control, etc.
- Assists in costing and quoting activities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of seating systems within vehicle architecture
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated experience in design engineering with a focus on multidisciplinary engineering, complex assemblies, first principles in design, prototyping, and production
- Hands-on experience in building or prototyping physical products
- Proficiency in hand-sketching as a form of engineering communication
- Background in automotive engineering with seating experience preferred but not mandatory
- Strong organizational skills for managing schedules and milestones
- Evidence of exceptional ability in problem-solving and innovation

Expected Compensation
$109,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
