What to Expect

Tesla's 4680 team'sgoal is to change the cell manufacturing industry by making the mostenergy dense andcost-effectivebattery cells in themost hightech, compactand energyefficient factoriesin the world. Tesla islooking for a SeniorMechanicalEngineer to help industrialize our cell manufacturinglinesto enable fast and efficient deploymentat scale worldwide.

The individual willpossessa strong firstprinciplesknowledge ofdry and wetHVACsystem design anduse this to help the teamoptimally integrate manufacturingequipment and factory systems into onecohesive package.Thecandidatewill become the subject matter expert for factory mechanical system design within the cell team, advising manufacturing engineers on how tooptimize manufacturingtooldesign to meet product requirements while alsoactingas the4680 team'srepresentativein reviewing central factory systemdetaileddesign drawings.

What You'll Do
  • Develop mechanical system design concepts, utility locations, loads andsystem specificationsduringConceptual design/Feasibility studyphase

  • Define / characterize all mechanical interfaces between cell manufacturing equipment and factory central systems and incorporate into cell MFG Factory REVIT Model

  • Review/approve factory mechanical system design(airflow diagrams, schematics, P&ID's, etc.)

  • Conduct cost / benefit analysis for localized utility systems vs. centralized (process cooling water, dust collection, etc.)

  • Use first principles to verify / size/ optimize design ofducting / piping / central utilities (Chillers, Cooling Towers, Boilers, Fans, air handling units, pumps, heat exchangers, etc.)

  • Liaisewith local factory engineering teamsand regulatory bodiesto understand local codesand applyto manufacturing equipment design

  • Develop RFQsfor MFG utility systems
