Department Overview

The Legal Department provides legal guidance to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama in the areas of preventive and defensive law. The associates in the Legal Department provide the vital legal guidance that helps Blue Cross continue its role as the market leader in an industry that is affected by continuous changing laws and regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

The Subrogation Analyst is responsible for negotiating and collecting the subrogation or reimbursement interest that arises from a third party's liability. The Subrogation Analyst provides timely, accurate, and professional service to members, their attorneys, and third parties involved in each case. Duties include monitoring the status of pending cases and communicating case-related information to members, attorneys, insurance providers, and other third parties; assisting in preparing cases for outside counsel and court; processing adjustments on subrogation claims; and negotiating Blue Cross' or the group's subrogation and reimbursement interests. The Analyst uses knowledge of the subrogation and reimbursement process, and applicable case and/or statutory law to negotiate on outstanding cases. Each Subrogation Analyst is peer-reviewed on a weekly basis for quality and accuracy.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Experience using established problem-solving skills
  • Established record of independent decision making
  • Experience applying privacy protocols to sensitive information
  • Knowledge of Blue Cross and Blue Shield claims processing preferred
  • Experience with legal terminology or subrogation knowledge preferred
  • Experience in customer service, telephone communication, or similar activities preferred
  • Experience applying subrogation, reimbursement, or collection principles preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Paralegal certification preferred
Work Location

The work schedule for this position will be hybrid (onsite/remote). Business areas reserve the right to require associates to return to the office as needed, based on performance or other business considerations. A hybrid work schedule is subject to amendment or termination at any time by the Company.
