Location: DHS Federal Protective Service - Region 4

Tour of Duty: Monday-Friday, 0900-1700 (Full-Time)


Position Overview

The Senior Budget Analyst provides financial and analytical support to FPS Region 4 leadership by assisting with budget formulation, execution, reconciliation, and financial reporting. The role supports DHS business process improvements and modernization initiatives and ensures accurate tracking and communication of financial data across programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: BS/BA with a minimum of 24 semester hours in finance, accounting, quantitative methods, or related coursework
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in federal financial management, policies, procedures, regulations, and systems


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Region 4 financial management and senior leadership by analyzing, tracking, and monitoring accounting functions within the Federal Financial Management System (FFMS).
  • Apply generally accepted accounting principles to diverse financial and budgetary tasks.
  • Analyze accounting data, reconcile accounts, and draft documentation supporting reprogramming actions and expenditure reclassifications.
  • Verify funding status of prior-year Security Work Authorizations (SWAs) and assist with audit responses and certification of undelivered orders.
  • Reconcile financial reports and validate accounting records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Analyze estimates for funding consolidation requests and verify cost estimates against PSO contract exhibits.
  • Retrieve financial system data and apply statistical methods to analyze trends and funding execution.
  • Track and analyze fund status, expenditures, and disbursements.
  • Draft reports, graphs, statistics, and other financial documentation in final form.
  • Support special financial projects identified by Region 4 financial and senior management.
  • Communicate financial data clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.


Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel (intermediate), and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical, written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to conduct independent research and resolve discrepancies
