Manages all Operating Room (OR) service line activities involved in the effective, efficient and economical utilization of material resources and personnel of the delegated service line. Ensures patient service is continuous and of a high quality. Works collaboratively with physicians, surgical services leadership and staff, materials management, and other ancillary departments. Oversees staff of delegated service line and reports to the Director of Peri-Operative Services.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Promotes increased case volume through provision of a highly effective service line intraoperative program, development of positive relations with surgeons within responsible area, and implementation of new surgical procedures.
2. Motivates and manages assigned service line nurses, technicians, patient care associates, equipment and materials. Develops and implements action plans to improve staff development and mentorship's. Acts as a professional leadership role model demonstrating consistent equity and accountability.
3. Manages the service line's day-to-day clinical operations, including practice standards, staffing, budgets, fiscal management, and quality improvement. Rotates duties that contribute to efficiently operationalizing and facilitating the operative schedule.
4. Works closely with vendors to ensure equipment and instrumentation is available for all cases. Updates physician preference cards and monitors instrument tray usage.
5. Manages, plans, and monitors service line activities. Collaborates to makes assignments appropriate to the skill level of service line team and provides direct patient care as needed.
6. Identifies and coordinates the needs of service line physicians through scheduled meetings.
7. Collaborates with service line team to ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available for assigned service lines' cases.
8. Controls the turnaround time process through OR staff utilization coordination and oversees operating room schedule time compliance.
9. Communicates effectively with perioperative team members for continuity of care. Maintains satisfactory relations with other departments and nursing units. Participates in all phases of education, maintenance of records, and upgrading of policies, procedures, and skills of personnel.
10. Manages and controls service line expenditures within established budgets and describes variances. Develops and maintains service line preference cards.
11. Communicates effectively and respectively with the medical, nursing, and interdepartmental staff.
12. Manages the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.

Standard Management Level Responsibilities:

1. Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
2. Develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
3. Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
4. Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
5. Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
6. Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, etc.
7. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
8. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, DPH, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
9. Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
10. Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department.
11. Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
12. Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
13. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
14. Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
2. Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.
3. Certified Nurse in the Operating Room (CNOR) credentialing.
4. Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.

Experience/Skill:

Required:
1. Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an OR.
2. Has demonstrated leadership potential.
3. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills. Understands and demonstrates the concepts of conflict resolution. Able to direct others and negotiate for desired results.
4. Strong thorough knowledge of computer systems and software.
