Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source's client, University of North Carolina Charlotte, is recruiting an Employee Relations/ADA Consultant to join their team in. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative HR team at a major public university and make a meaningful impact on employee experience, policy application, and organizational culture.

Here's a little about UNC Charlote and the position they are recruiting for:

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a public research university and part of the University of North Carolina System. The institution serves a large and diverse campus community and offers a broad range of academic and research programs. Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, the university operates within a complex regulatory environment and employs a substantial workforce across academic and administrative functions.

About the Department:

The Human Resources Employee Relations Unit supports a fair, productive, and respectful work environment by providing guidance and services to employees, managers, and supervisors. The team administers employee relations programs and policies related to performance management, discipline, grievances, unemployment insurance, ADA accommodations, and the prevention of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and workplace violence. Employee Relations also offers counseling to employees with workplace concerns and consultative support to managers on performance expectations, documentation, feedback, and disciplinary communications.

About the role:

This position serves as a key Employee Relations and ADA Consultant, supporting day-to-day operations while ensuring compliance, consistency, and a supportive process. Approximately 50% of the role is dedicated to managing ADA accommodation requests for staff, non-faculty, and faculty employees through the interactive process. The remaining 50% focuses on core employee relations responsibilities, including advising managers on performance and disciplinary matters up to and including termination, supporting or conducting investigations and grievance processes, facilitating conflict resolution, and identifying opportunities to strengthen employee relations practices and workplace culture.

The role also provides back-up support to the Employee Relations team's primary ER Consultants and lead ADA Consultant. Additional responsibilities include managing cases through the Salesforce Case Management and Ticketing system, assigning cases received through ER and ADA inboxes, preparing investigation summaries and reports, responding to inquiries, performing administrative tasks, and generating reports to support team operations and data-driven decision-making.

What you will be doing:

Employee Relations Consultation

Serve as a consultant to department leaders and employees on SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty employee relations matters, providing guidance aligned with University, Board of Governors, and Office of State Human Resources policies. Apply appropriate frameworks based on employee classification to resolve performance, conduct, and workplace concerns.

Investigations

SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty Employee Relations

  • Advise supervisors and employees on employee relations issues, performance management, and disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal, discontinuation of employment, or termination, ensuring compliance with applicable policies.

ADA Accommodation Management and Compliance

  • Manage the intake, evaluation, and interactive process for ADA accommodation requests for employees, applicants, and student employees. Review medical documentation, determine eligibility, recommend reasonable accommodations, and coordinate with HR, Legal Affairs, and managers on accommodations, medical restrictions, and leave-related matters. Document interactions, assess accommodation effectiveness, maintain confidentiality, and prepare compliance and program reports. Serve as a subject matter expert on ADA, ADAAA, Rehabilitation Act, Pregnant Workers' Fairness Act, and related laws, including responding to disability-related complaints and supporting training, policy interpretation, and organization-wide compliance efforts.

Employee Relations Reporting and Case Management

  • Support the Employee Relations Director with annual reporting for SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty activities. Maintain ER case trackers, manage cases through Salesforce, and prepare recurring and ad hoc reports to support team operations and data-informed decision-making.

Communication, Documentation, and Policy Application

Assist with policy review and revisions, and maintain current knowledge of federal, state, BOG, and OSHR regulations.

Emergency Loan Fund Administration

  • Oversee administration of the Emergency Loan Fund program, serving as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries. Review applications for eligibility, coordinate processing with Budget and Payroll, maintain reconciliation records, and prepare related reports.

Unemployment Administration

  • Respond to requests from the University's third-party unemployment vendor, participate in hearings as needed, advise department leaders on hearing preparation, and ensure accurate and timely submission of unemployment reports.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, psychology, organizational development, or related field.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience analyzing, interpreting, applying, communicating, and promoting HR best practices in support of organizational goals and objectives.
